BMD I think uses the 50gr TSX a lot in his 220 Swift which has a 1:14 barrel and raves about its performance. With the number of 1:14 twist barrels out there it would supprise me if the 55gr is loaded by the manufactures. Solid copper bullets are long for their weight when compared to cup and core bullets and take a faster twist generally speaking to stabilize them.

If you have the manual that comes with the gun it should have the twist rate listed in the specs for the gun. Sorry I do not know of a source for factory ammo in 55gr TSX for the 22-250. Chad could probally load some up though.

If your rifle has the 1:14 twistrate it mostlikely will not stabilize the 55gr bullet. Prolly correct I don't know what twist it has but I shoot 55gr a lot and now 64 and it's fine Vanguards should be a 1-14 twist. Just because you're shooting a cup and core bullet at 64 grains doesn't necessarily mean it'll work with a 55gr TSX. On a side note, I'd be willing to bet that a 50 or 53gr TSX will weigh more after hitting an animal than your current 64 grain cup and core bullet would, especially at the velocities of a 22-250. My guess is the critters won't be able to tell a 5 grain difference between a 50 or 55 grain TSX.

You may wish to contact Ty Herring at Barnes...he is full of current info on tests and loads on their products and I've found him to be most helpful...I've used him and his info for yrs on everything from 22-250 to 338 Win and 30-378 Wthrby ect..It all has worked...If you are loading X bullets I'd suggest you get some very good bore cleaner and spend several hrs. over a couple of days cleaning your weapon..the jackets on reg ammo has a hardener in it that will attach to your lands and grooves and work on the softer solid copper projectiles...and really affect your groups...Don

Looks like he is stuck on the gr size and not the bullets construction.
A 55gr tsx and 55 gr vmax perform completely different from start to finish.
Because copper weights less then lead..there is more bullet to a tsx then vmax even though they both weigh the same.
I've killed lots of animals with the 53tsx in a Ruger Mark II .

Ok, you do not reload, but there are few who do, here is my current load, BR primer, 36 grains of TAC, 55 grain TTSX...set just off the L&G..chrongraph's 3810...TARPLEY,TX...rifle is Remington 1 in 14 w/26 in heavy varmit bbl...groups 5 shots in a dime or smaller..penetrates up to 42 in. thru bone, sinew, and meat...and knock on wood, I haven't lost an animal or had one run on it yet..and I really try to shoot them in the head or neck if possible..cause we eat them.....Good luck, you may hve to play with this load a little...do clean your weapon...Don

BOBO: for whatever reason, he's apparently not interested in anything but the 55gr. I PREFER 55gr. If it comes down to 50 or 53 then I'm fine. For now I'm happy with 64gr Power Point

I don't know if I mentioned it, but Barnes makes the 22444 part no. for 55 gr. projectile for the 22-250 w/1 in 14 twist or faster. I orig. tested some they sent prior to making them for the public..and got great results on culls at the ranch..Don
