Here is a cheap protein feeder that I built a month ago that works like a charm. I am going to build another one with a 55 gal barrel this weekend. I had this small barrel and went to Home Depot and bought some PVC fittings. Added the leg kit from Academy. I have less than $60.00 in this one and the deer empty it of protein every week.

I am in East Texas for sure. Must have been the pine trees that tipped you off. My PVC tubes are about 36" above the ground. I wanted them a little higher but the leg extensions dictated that based on where I placed them on the barrel. Will give more thought on the next one.

I am using the Game Winner extension tube on another feeder as well. I looked at 4 different Academy stores this year and couldn't find them and even searched on line. That is when I came up with the PVC design.

Nice. I went to Home Depot and bought some PVC tubing to make one as well. How do you keep the protein from pouring out? Do you have the ends curved up slightly?

Yes, that is the key. I also drilled some holes in the bottom of the angled piece in case of rain at an angle.

looks good, what kind of fitting did you use to connect the pvc to the barrel? I have hard of using toilet flanges, is that what you used?

Yes, the toilet flanges are connected to the barrel and then your other pieces screw into it.

Adjust the angle on your 45's. If they are tilted too high, pellets will get wet with heavy rains. When they are too low, pellets will pour on the ground. Just a little uplift.

Hey guys thanks for all the tips. I got all the supplies from HD today and I prepped and painted the barrel. It was a lot of work but it came out pretty good, check it..Do you think these feeders can be hung? I have a few horses on the property and a couple of long horns. what do you think about hanging it?
