"The report shows the economic activity supported by the commercial casino industry is roughly equivalent to 1 percent of the $14.5 trillion U.S. gross domestic product in 2010."

"According to the report, 566 casinos in 22 states supported about $125 billion in spending and nearly 820,000 U.S. jobs in 2010. Taking all lines of spending into account, commercial casinos directly generated $49.7 billion in consumer spending and about 350,000 jobs, with salaries and benefits totaling nearly $15 billion in 2010. When indirect and induced impacts are taken into account, the industry supports an additional $76 billion in spending with suppliers and other businesses, and more than 470,000 additional jobs"

We need some BIG casinos in Texas. I read somewhere recently where they are getting ready to go big time on casino's in Miami. I think Disney is leading the fight against.

It's a little late for Disney, theres already several Seminole casino's, I went to the one in Tampa. The real fight will be if they try to have non indian casino's. Should the state give the word my partner and I are putting in a Poker parlor.

Not going to happen here in Texas any time soon It should but won't. The horse racing industry has a huge impact on allowing casino's along with Bossier City leading the way of donations for many politician's.

Looks like the Miami casino developers lost the first round but I am sure it is far from over. The developers already acquired the land so they still have the upper hand in my opinion. I don't think the indian casino's are part of the opposition but the pari-mutuel folks sure are. The dogtracks, jai-alai and poker places would go under within a week of the casino's opening.

A controversial bill to allow mega-resort casinos in Florida appears dead this year, after the House sponsor scrapped a vote Friday by a subcommittee that likely would have rejected the idea.

Rep. Erik Fresen (R-Miami) announced he was pulling back the bill (HB 487) as the House Business & Consumer Affairs Subcommittee listened to testimony from lobbyists, businesspeople and activists on both

sides of the politically volatile issue.

We should get the developers to put a bunch of those big suckers down in Houston it would be like a 3rd coast Vegas. Probably wouldn't pass here either.

For years Texas let millions of dollars leave the state by not having horse racing, now history is repeating itself, millions are leaving heading to Oklahoma and Lousianna to the casinos. bang
