What kind of calls do you turkey hunters take to he woods. I have 2 Turpin 1 yelper amd a box, I have a yelper a friend made and a slate that another friend made. All my calls are hand made. I got a call at the NWTF in Nashville in 07. I have not got to use it yet but Im looking forward to using.

I use my mouth, no call needed. I can do several different pitches and can control volume better. Mouth calling is superior to any call on the market in my opinion.

Funny you mention it. I was practicing again the other day with a mouth call and could not get it to sound right 75% of the time. When I took the call out and just copied the sounds with my mouth, it sounded much better. I'll try it this year . . .

I take a slate, a box, and a composite slate type call, not to mention all my crow, owl and hawk calls. I wear a vest and like to have whatever they want to hear.

I hear ya, i first attempted mouth calling 3 or 4 years ago and recently just perfected it. And trust me i practice all the time. Really annoys everybody who isn't as obsessed with hunting as i am. So pretty much everyone I know

Oh boy…chatter on the Turkey Forum! It took me about three days after I put the deer season behind me to pull out the turkey vest and start playing with all my toys! I carry about six different calls (and crow and hawk locator call) in my vest but I mainly depend on three of them. 1.) A Redhead Osage-Orange and Walnut box call which has an absolutely great tone and high pitch. 2.) A Primos Power Crystal with a rosewood striker which will really reach out there on windy days. 3.) A Quaker Boy Pro Triple mouth call which I cut a notch in the left side of the reeds. I usually get the first response and get ‘em coming with the box or glass call and then finish them with the mouth call. I am going to try the “natural voice” thing this season like hsuhunter. I have done it before and got a response from a bird but then chickened out and switched to one of the artificial calls I carry. IT CAN’T GET HERE FAST ENOUGH BOYS!

I have a couple different slate calls but I generally carry a Roberts Brothers call that is glass on top and slate on bottom. It's a great call.

maybe if you were hunting s--t eating turkeys that might work but i find that a box or slate works good ,,,
LOL. I’ve tried to call in several gobblers that I swore were sh** eating. In fact I think after long sessions of trying to get one old bird in I actually used that exact description…..”Damn, Mot*** F***g, Sum bi**, A** hole, Sh** Eating Gobbler!!!”

I tried a electronic call a couple of times. I don't think that it was loud enough. I switched to a ficition call and it worked much better. I also have a Crow locator call that I carry. I have a friend that uses only a box call and he is good with it. He can even get a gobble out of it. Don't ask me I can't do it. I hear that season is starting earlier this year. We plan on hitting it asap. I think that last year the best time was before season. When it opens there be a trail of dust to Sonora!!
