Buddy and I went out to look at a deer lease today in Duval County. Lease was about 5miles away from San Diego on HWY44 West off C.R.338. About 1000acres. The lease manager was very nice and up front about everything. We drove around the lease and check the game cameras he had out. Out of about 7 cameras he had out only 1 camera had a deer. Mainly Hogs. Did not see that many deer tracks on the place or around the feeders, but hog tracks everywhere. Did not see any deer while driving the lease. So my questions is how is the hunting around this area? We have not committed to place, we told him that we would think about it. Any information would be appreciated.

That area around San Diego used to be very heavily poached year round years ago.

If they have feeders up and no pictures of deer i would be pretty hesitent. If you are willing to put in the time and have the ability to get a long term lease, it may be worth it.

Like ranchman said, it is known for poaching and while it may not be as bad as it used to be, I think plenty of it still goes on.

Hunted there for 10 years and never saw alot of deer under feeders. Also try walking the lease instead of driving because of the heavy poaching deer down there here a car they haul a$$.

We see butloads of deer under feeders, and they are scared of the truck untill they hear the tailgate feeder then they stop running and look at you. Im pretty hesitent to trust people I dont know. Make sure yuo figure out all the terms of the lease and get it written down and signed and try to get you and the "lease Manager" and land owner together, just so everyone is on the same page about what is going on and who is lease the sole hunting rights to the property and such.

7 cameras and only 1 camera has deer on it?

I think that's all you need to know. however...I'll give you my opinion anyway.

It's one of the worst poached areas anywhere I've ever seen. everyone is related to everyone, and the locals there hunt year around. on 1000 acres, the place may hold some deer that won't travel outside that place, as long as you know someone isn't coming in hunting when you're not there.
