Looking for an AR-10 in .308, I know nothing but the very basics about the semis.

Rifle's purpose will be plinking, hitting steel <400 yards (I have the bolts in better calibers for longer range), and hunting.

Of course a GAP-10 would be ideal, but I don't want to break the bank, so I'm thinking DPMS.

What say y'all? DPMS is the way to go, DPMS is okay but there is better choices, stay away from DPMS altogether?

Any help is much appreciated, thanksup

Dpms is a fine weapon, accurate and reliable. But it's not an ar10, only Armalites are AR10's. Not much is compatible between them.

I currently run an Armalite AR 10 T carbine, it's very accurate and only weighs 8.5 pounds.

Armalite is announcing at Shot a couple models that take sr25/ pmags now. They will offer the sass and carbine.

I knew you would have some helpful advice Morgan. Would you choose an Armalite over DPMS?

Changed my mind, rifle's primary role will be hunting.

I also recommend the AR-10T. They are very accurate for a factory gun. Josh at North Texas Rifle Precision made the coolest shot I have ever seen. He made a first round hit on a moving turkey at 640 yards with a stock AR-10T with a 175 SMK. So, yes, they will shoot!

I shoot George's personal and first GAP AR-10 he ever built. It is beyond a hammer, and extremely accurate. I did not do any load developement for it, and it shoots 1/2 moa with a basic 308 load with a 150 grain SST. I use it for hunting. If you have the money, get one of those. I'm not a fan of the DPMS rifles.

I sold mine for my Armalite. It's lighter than my ORC was and is more accurate. Both are excellent guns, but I would personally go Armalite. For the money it's tough to beat, my
(T) series carbine will give good competition to the ones costing twice as much.

I like my DPMS. Very accurate. Only have 100 rds.thru it. Last 40 rds. were in about 1 1/4 in circle at 100 yds. On the other hand it is a very tight rifle. A few jams in the beginning till it got some breaking in done. I was told it takes 200 rds. to get broken in properly.

I have the AR 10T carbine and it will flat shoot probably better than most of my bolt guns. Never had a problem with it will shoot 1/2 " all day.

I know buy once, cry once, and I've seen it come true, I'm just not sure if I want to drop that coin. Maybe I will just save and get the GAP.

I love my DPMS LR-308 rifle. It's a dedicated bench rifle now. Accuracy and reliability are outstanding. It's way too heavy to lug around. The new upper I have it now is a 20" stainless spiral fluted bull but my original upper was 16" heavy and accuracy was outstanding on it as well. Never an single hiccup.

Finally got a chance to take out the AR-10 and do a little shooting. I managed to get .75" groups off the tailgate of my truck using Barnes Vortex 168 gr TTSX.

I have 2 DPMS in 308...a 24in bull barrel and i just picked up a 18in Lite....
Love em both...
For hunting the 18in is 7.99 lbs....cost $1095 at gun show
Spend your money on optics, i think everyone will agree with that
Cheap and easy!
