My son is 13, he took his first deer a few weeks ago. I decided before to not post this pic here because I didn't want to hear any BS about him being young or only a "3 pointer" etc. But, after further thought........I really don't care. My son still is, & will forever be proud of this deer. My daughter got her first kill, (hog), the next day. Good times for my family, thought I'd share.
Just a little info.....this deer was spotted with a couple of does @ first light at 100 yrds. I was glassing & made him wait until I could clearly see what he was, (we shoot all bucks under 4 pts....not button bucks). He was ready for the shot then a yote ran through & spooked the deer. This lil' buck hit the brush & dissapeared. A few minutes later we spotted him again this time he was in a trot & was heading out, but he had to cross the road first. I told my boy to be ready etc when he hit the road I was going to try & stop him, his orders were to shoot on my command lol. Well, when he hit the road I grunted at him & he stopped broadside @ 50 yrds this time. I told my son to shoot, & he hit this deer exactly where I told him too....made a great shot. Busted heart & lungs with the 243, deer jumped, kicked, & ran 40-50 yrds & dropped. This was my son's first experience tracking anything & man did his eyes light up when I pointed to his deer on the ground. smile

Who cares what people say about a deer as long as its legal. Congrats to your daughter and boy. Tell him and your daughter to keep up the good shooting.

Congrats to both of your kids. From the looks of the second picture you have all the right in the world to be as proud as can be of them. I don't think anyone on here would deny a young man or young woman their first legal kill.

Very nice! I can remember my first buck like it was yesterday. A 4 point just outside of Beeville. That memory will last a lifetime. Everytime one of my kids shoot its like my first time all over again. I love it! Congrats to you and your family! Keep it up!

Regardless of what ppl have to say be proud of the deer and be thankful for the opportunity to spread your love of hunting to your children.

Nice deer! Way to go young man!

On another note is that one of those hog lights on the scope? Does it work very good? Brand?

Thanks!

To be determined

Yessr, that's an ND-3x40. I love it so far. I've killed some nice hogs with that light & have no real complaints yet....green lazer. I'm going to put it through some more tests in the months to come......

Congrats to your son and daughter. Good to see both kids hunting with you.

When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible.

I don't think there is a better deer for a youngster! I he had killed a 180 class as his first he would be jaded for life and would have nowhere to go but down, ha. I have the horns of every deer I have ever taken, from the 16 point to the spikes. When i look at them I remember where and who I was with at the time. Keep them horns, one day when your in the ground and your boy is 75 he will look at them and remember that special day when him and his old man got that buck.

Congrats to both of your kids and to you. Everyone starts somewhere and anyone that thinks different or would ridicule a deer that a youngster shot needs to be strung up and whip

Nothing better than getting them into the woods, the time spent, the memories made and the promise for the oppurtunity to do it again soon. Congrats again and thanks for sharing up

I only have one deer mounted btw and it is not my big 11 or my 16 point from Iowa. It is a average 8 I killed with my dad in East Tx years ago before he died. At the time it was my biggest deer so I figured I would start my trophy wall. No need for me to mount another one because nothing will be as good as that 8. Sorry just throwing out my thoughts.

Good stuff fellas! I too keep all of my horns, even the spikes. I'm gonna put my boy's buck on a plaque for him, that's for sure.
