Need a little advise on teeth cleaning. My wife got an estimate from the vet. 300.00+ per dog. I have two labs, a 2 year old and a 3 year old. I do not want to pay 600.00 for this. Any advise? Thanks, Rodney

I've never had it done in 45 years of bird dogging. A couple of times over the years the vet checked and said that the teeth looked fine.

Get yourself some beef bones from the butcher and boil them to remove the fat. Then put them in the freezer. Let your dog chew on them for 15 minutes a day and your dog won't need a tooth cleaning.

Never had any of our dogs' teeth cleaned. $300?? Really???? I have to agree with Angie - get the cleaned down and boiled bones. They'll also benefit from the calcium.

Feeding Dentastixs two or three times a week will keep most dogs teeth clean.

Never have had my dogs teeth cleaned. Give them something to chew on and they will clean themselves. ANGIEs idea is great. I had a GSP that loved to chew on my firewood- especially the 2"-4" round pieces. Left a mess (& hazards) in the yard, but he had very clean teeth and strong jaws.

I would also look at what you are feeding. The dry feed I use says it helps to keep the teeth clean.

I have never had any of my dogs teeth cleaned. They get dry food only, unless we are hunting & then I will give them a little canned food mixed with dry. I have had my vet look at them & he has never said they needed cleaned. Angie's idea is a good one.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

You can buy those beef bones already processed at WM for under $5. I give Cracker her bone on rainy days to keep her from getting bored.

The raw diet I keep my dogs on cleans their teeth itself so I never have to see a vet.

I let my dog chew on beef bones and he has the cleanest teeth the vet has seen.
She did tell me that one shouldn't use raw because the risk of parasites. She also told me they could still splinter and tried to sell me vet only "Chexa chews".
I just boil the beef bones and watch him when he's chewing on them now.
If it looks good, eat it.
Rocks are cool, also kittens.
