How many hunts did it take before you killed your first deer or hog with a bow?

Just one but I was hunting in Coleman county. It is a low fence ranch. Man what a rush!!

It's the time spent in God's creation with family and friends making memories that counts.

i've been trying off and on for 13 years and still haven't killed either with a bow.

only things i've launched an arrow at was one squirrel and a hog this past september.

hog got away but the squirrel wasn't as lucky

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I hunted off and on for several years before getting a turkey and then a trophy spike buck this year. I had almost convinced myself that bowhunting was for vegatarians until finally getting close enough and closing the deal.

While in high school and college, I was doing it all wrong. I was hunting with a recurve, pulling about 65 pounds and never could get anything.

After I got serious in the early 90's, and got a bow that property fit me, I connected on a couple of deer and Javi's, and usually get several animals a year.

Can't remember but it was too long. I reveille in and cherish each one though.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

tree rats count for sure. I hunted 3 years with recurve then I think 2 before getting the first deer. But I will say I learned a lot more about deer by Bow hunting than I ever did gun hunting.

It took me until my second year to kill a deer. My first season I missed two deer and had zero confidence in my bow. I gun hunted almost the whole next season. Last weekend of the season I decided to bow hunt. I had a turkey walk out about 25 yards and stuck it. I told myself if I can hit a turkey I can hit a big ol deer. I killed a buck and 2 doe with my bow that weekend. I haven't hunted with a gun in last two years since then.

I got my bow in March of 2011 and killed a fallow at a high fence ranch in July of 2011. It was my very first hunt. I shot him from about 30 yards and about 8 inches of my arrow broke off in his chest. He wobbled away, and, despite my boyfriend at the time trying to talk me in to letting him shoot him with his AR, I chose to let him go down on his own. I wanted the kill. Well, it was 110 degrees outside and it took us 12 hours to find the little sucker! By the time I found him the hide was slipping and he was decomposing.....but I have an awesome euro mount!

In my third season bow hunting, all public, and finally got my first shot on a buck (or any animal for that matter) last night. Missed low ... and kicking myself since! But it was a total rush nonetheless and I know it'll be sweeeet when I finally connect.

My first time out I shot a nice buck and then jumped out of the stand like an idiot and bumped him and never found him.

Finally I learned to shoot and wait and shortly thereafter I recovered my fist buck, a nice 8 pointer.

I will never forget that feeling although it has been several years ago. I never got that rush with a rifle and in fact when I shot a buck with a rifle a few years ago I felt like I "cheated" and have never hunted with one since (except for coyotes).

I will say this - I had a MUCH harder time recovering hogs than deer until I finally figured out where to hit hogs (a little lower in the chest cavity than deer).

To me, if you can hit and recover a hog you can definitely be a successful deer hunter with a bow.

My first bow kill was my first or second year with a bow. I remember it like it was yesterday and it was about 17 years ago. I went to a hunting show and watched the wood wise guy show off his calls. I bought them all. I was new to hunting and deer calls were new too. I pulled out my fawn in distress call. He said it will make any doe that has ever been around a fawn come running. I blew on it one or two times and this doe came running. She stopped at 22 yards. I put my brass pin on the vitals and let my 145 gr broadhead fly at 180fps. It looked like I missed. The arrow was stuck in the ground. I pulled out my binoculars and looked at the arrow. It was totally red. I waited 30 minutes, climbed down, pulled out and waited for my dad and brother. We went back and she had gone only 40 yards. I remember the hole was the size of a baseball. My dad looked at me and said "You shot this with a bow?" She was a doe, but a fawn doe. I was so excited even with all the harassment I recieved for shooting a doe. I was the first in my family to take a deer with a bow.

I missed my first shot on my first hunt with a bow this October opening day. Followed up the afternoon hunt with a doe though so it turned out great and will never put it down again.

My first year I hunted the same spot every weekend for 2 months before seeing a deer. He was a nice 8-point, and I managed to get an arrow through his lungs.

Took a doe my first year of bowhunting and I took a doe this year with my bow, still after my first buck. I'll never rifle hunt again. I'm with millerlite, if I shot one with a rifle I'd feel like I was cheating. In my experience (little that there is) the devil is in the details. If you want to get close you have to put a lot of work and preparation into your set-up. Concealment of all the major factors (smell, sight, and sound) is very hard to achieve but if you do it right you'll have them standing at 15-20 yards not knowing you're. Spend 45 min covered up with 7-10 deer 15 yards away from you and you'll learn more about the game you are chasing in that time than you will in a decade of sitting in a gun blind 75-100 yards away....that's a fact.
