Go let him shoot a couple of the package bows set of for youth/beginners. Matthews (mission) has a good bow, Diamond makes an awesome little rig called the razor edge, i bought my wife this bow and she loves it. The diamond can be adjusted in length and poundage to fit him now until he decides to get something else. I dont think 9yrs old is to young, hang a couple of double tree stand sets so you can be right above him giving him what guidence is needed and it will be the most intense hunting you will ever do. I have had my wife with me all season and i get more pumped watching her get ready to try and get a shot off than if i were holding the bow myself. Good luck and keep him interested, go to some 3D shoots this season and let him have fun (you will enjoy it as well). Hope this helps

^^^ Good advice

I will add that I would take him to some 3D shoots to build some confidence. Also I would consider a ground blind over an open tree stand simply to cover any excessive movement a kid that age is going to make.
There are several kids that age that have killed multiple animals with a bow

My 4 1/2 yer old grandson just got a "little man's" compound bow for Christmas. It has a 10lb draw a nd he can't pull it back. frown I told him to start working with his Mom's 2lb weighs and keep working at drawing the bow back. Some Grandparents, Aunts, and Uncles were concerned about him getting this bow at such a young age. My intent is to teach him all about the safety first, then teach him to shoot it correctly and practice with him shooting at the deer target his Mimi and I bought him for Christmas. deer He is soooooo excited.

It's the time spent in God's creation with family and friends making memories that counts.
