Does anyone have one of these that they use? A couple of stores have them today on sale and I was thinking of buying one. I guess my first question is do the work and how well?
I was thinking of making jerky, but the small hydraters don't seem like they hold much.

I use a bradley mostly when I do sausage. And might experiment with a recipe once a year or so... fish, bird etc...

Big advantage is you can pick different types of woods than I would use on my offset.

I have a Bradley six rack with the generator. I basiclly use it for cooking and smoking chicken and sausage. Works well for my purpose. Can't tell you about jerky but you probably know how to prepare it. I have several types of "smoking bisketts" that is for use in the generator. Once you have everything set in motion its a hands free operation.

I have a BIG CHIEF. Works OK, but does not hold or produce much heat when temps below 30 degrees. Have to finish in oven

Hi Hoof,

Here's my experience with electric smokers...

I've owned two Bradley's over the years, but I never tried them for jerky.

I used them for smoking briskets, ribs, pork shoulders and chicken.

Bradley was really a step up for me from the inexpensive barrel type smokers...I got frustrated and tired of trying to maintain a constant temp and the all night vigil that is required with them wore me out.

I am a huge fan of Bradleys because their electric smoker and the predictable and controlled smoke/temperature made my BBQ outstanding most every time. The only real drawbacks are that you cannot run it outside if it is raining, and that it doesn't automatically shut off when the meat is done.

I have since stepped up to a Cookshack smoker. I mainly did this because Bradley's are great, but they have an outdoor lifespan of 1-2 years. (I left it outside, and really didn't pay attention to it unless I was about to use it)

I get the same end result as the Bradley, I don't have to add pucks, it works no matter what the weather (I'm smoking at 225 right now and the air temp is 27 and dropping)and it stops cooking at the internal meat temp that I tell it to. The only drawback the same that is inherant in all electric smokers...no smoke ring.

Long story short, electric smokers have made my life easier and turned me into a BBQ genious in the eyes of my family and many friends. I have only owned Cookshack and Bradley, so if you're asking for advice, I'd start with a Bradley for the cost factor and step up if your wallet will allow for it.

I love my plain ol brinkman electric. I have used my big offset, and a big trailer smoker for years, but this one makes it so easy to get good results with minimum effort.

It holds a temp of 200-225, and I can add all my wood chunks down into the bottom for as long as I want smoke. I cook pork butts on it for about 15 hours, and the water pan keeps it nice and moist. Falling apart tender. Same with ribs, chickens, or even veggies. Works very well.

Forgot to add, I have one of the remote digital thermometers for my meats. I plug it in, and when I go to bed, all I have to do is turn the handheld reciever on, and check my meat temp from the bed!!! Hehe. Lazy, I know!!!

I have a bradley and use an Auber PID to help control the temps; pretty much makes smoking briskets, pork etc a set it and forget it deal. The PID will turn off my smoker after a set time or internal temp, ramps up temps without having to mess with the dial, and turns smoke on and off as programmed. I have no problem putting a brisket in before I go to bed and taking it out the next morning in time for lunch/dinner after a 12+ hour smoke. I looked at a few other smokers, in particular the webber, and decided I didn't want to fool with getting temps just right. The bradley and PID combination solves this problem for me.

I have a masterbuilt electric 30" smoker. Works great! Comes with a remote control that controls EVERYTHING. built in meat probe and automatically shuts off at your desired cooking time. the most ive smoked int it has been 4 racks of ribs, 4 chickens and 3 pork tenderloins. It does its job well and takes the hassle of constantly monitoring the temperature

Just build one funner that way... Cinderblock base wood top.

That way you van also cold smoke
