I posted some silly pictures the other day in another thread, but here is the real hunt in a photo essay. Dave Speer and Sig1921 joined me for some NW OK waterfowling. Alternating between Geese and Ducks, we did 5 morning hunts and 4 evening hunts in a 5 day span. On the road, loaded for anything. There is 237 Goose Decoys on that truck. Cutting right to the first hunt. First day hunting just Dave and myself. We had to cart and set up decoys in the rain, but it was worth it. Birds decoyed well. First flock in cupped wings within 20 yards. We dropped 5 of those birds. Next bird in was a single that finished, Dave had his last bird with a 15 yard shot. We limited on Canadas faster than most Teal hunts. I believe this was Dave's first dedicated Goose hunt and his first goose was one of a double. How cool is that! So White Geese was now the game. We spread around the snow decoys mixing the spread and making a bigger footprint on the field. It worked and seemed to work for the Canadas too. We had this flock of Canadas circle us several times, but the two Snows stayed right in the middle of them the entire time. We never could take the shot. We did have Canadas land and hop around in our decoys three or four times. Dark, rainy, low clouds, and a cross wind. The conditions were perfect and the spread looked alive. My girl Blaze coming back in with a Ross. Finished with two bonus Ross Geese and a Snow.

Cool.
I still haven't been on a goose hunt either. I'll probably try to do a dedicated hunt next year.

The next morning Goose hunting again we had the cloud cover, but lack of predicted wind was a disapointment. Sillosox mixed in with the Snows was the only movement we had in the spread. Wind direction was entirely wrong for our location. And to top it off I had a gun malfunction with my Gold 10 that would only work as a single shot and had to be broken down after each shot to be able to load it. We were still happy with the results for the day. A couple singles did finish in the decoys for some exciting moments and we did have several flocks circle the decoys for a closer look allowing us to be able pick one off here and there over the morning. Nothing like having a flock of Widgeons for live confidence decoys. Picking up and leaving the place cleaner than we found it. All those shells we cleaned out of the blind combined with ours made for a neat picture. Our road trip involved 5 morning hunts and 4 evening hunts in a span of 5 days. Beat up and tired, it was time for this waterfowling marathon to come to an end. But another will start soon. I'll be hunting public land Geese on a State Park in Kansas next month perhaps with a stop in the OK panhandle on the way, then on deeper into Kansas for a late season Pheasant hunt. I can't wait to hit the road again. Hope y'all enjoyed the pictures.

Nothing like having a flock of Widgeons for live confidence decoys. There were a lot of cool sights on the trip, but having a couple hundred widgeon on the ground in front of us whistling and chomping away was very cool.
