For starters, I am new to the hunting thing so be nice to me if I don't know all of the lingo yet.

Having gone a few times as a young teen, and then getting kinda screwed on a lease in my mid 20's I decided it was not for me. Then came my cousin convincing me to get on a lease he manages in Val Verde County.

I started the year bow hunting at his place near Buffalo, TX, taking a Doe. This past weekend was my first chance out to the lease, and on my third evening (Friday) I watched a spike who had gotten himself torn up by another buck (gashes and puncture wounds in various places) for about an hour. He finally wandered off and I see a shimmer of gold in the remaining daylight in the 5:45 range. Below is the results from a 125ish yard shot using my Savage Model 99 .243 I bought as a teenager. He dropped where he stood which happened to be in front of a game camera, so I sat posing for a few minutes while I waited for my cousin to show with the truck. All in all a great feeling, and being my first I feel he deserves a spot on the wall.

Hopefully next season will yield one of his buddies to add to the room.

Fantastic first buck man! Congrats!! I actually hunt with a Savage Model 110 .243. It's the first rifle my old man bought me. I've been using it for 15 years now. I've put a new scope and trigger in it over the years (I've put more money into that gun than what it's worth)....I just can't bring myself to hunt with any other rifle. Congrats again!!

I actually also have a 7 Mag, but witht he jokes I got on the .243 from several of the 300 win Mag shooters, I decided to show them just how much meat is on those front shoulders they blow off. That lil Model 99 also dropped a Cull the following morning.
