What is a good .30-06 bullet for making 100-400 yard shots? Also what is a good .308 bullet for the same type of shot? For deer.

Where do you like to shoot them? I shoot shoulder shots and Barnes 150 Gr. TTSX work great on whitetails.

each gun is different, I ran test with about 10 different bullets and most accurate out of a Savage with good ballsitic tip was the Remington AccuTip or Scirocco. however, since then I've heard great things about the Barnes TSX, so will test that head to head with Remington.

My top picks are Hornady SST, Interbond, and A-max (yes, the A-max is a great hunting bullet!), Nosler Accubond and Partition and Berger VLD's (for long range shooting).

Actually, it's the overall load that the factory uses that the gun likes, not just the bullet. With the right powder charge and bullet combo, a rifle will shoot just about any bullet very well. It has more to do with the powder and powder charge with that bullet to make a rifle shoot very well. So, if a certain factory load with XYZ bullet doesn't shoot well, it doesn't mean that "XYZ bullet" is not an accurate bullet. It means your rifle does not like the certain powder and bullet combo used in the factory load. Just FYI!

I have never had any issues with them. Some people claim they "blow up" on impact but I have yet to witness this.

never had a 180gr BST out a 300wm blow up on a deer, but have since switched everything over to accubonds and vlds... still have a 257roy shooting a TSX/AB mix.

Any bullet in 30 cal is a good bullet.

Go light on your bonded or monolithic

Go heavy on cup and core

My Dad just recently started shooting them this year out of a 243

Deer1 (Doe) --> Double lung ran about 30 yards dead. Did not get a complet pass through but here lungs looked like swiss cheese

Deer2 (3.5 buck) -- Heart shot, ran 15 - 20 yards dead. Pretty much liquified his heard and had about a quarter size exit wound.

in my book they work great with good shot placement (like any bullet). I would be a little leary if it was a direct shoulder hit.

OK, the Federal Premium 165 GR Sierra GameKing BTSP shoots awful in my Savage, I can't even keep it on the paper while shooting great with Fusion 165 or Rem 165.

My favorite factory load in 308 is the Hornady Custom (not so much the superformance stuff) 150gr SST.
