I think it's awesome that you're going! Tell Robert Dawn said "Hello" - have a great time and shoot some Canadas!

There wasn't much action on the lake, not too many birds out there. Most of the geese were flying really high. My group harvested two canadian geese, two mallards, and one green wing teal for the week.

MWO, thanks for bringing so many of the decoys!

Did you learn anything? That's the most important thing.

I'd say the most important thing for me was to meet those experienced hunters, and just spend time in the blind.

I did learn that there is a lot more public hunting land (water) available than what is listed in the TPWD public hunting lands book, so that's a major plus.

I learned what teal sound like, and what geese don't sound like.

I learned how to clean a duck or goose.

I also learned that if you go drop off your layout blinds and decoys the night before the hunt in unfamiliar land, you should probably mark that spot with a GPS so that you don't waste 45 minutes in the morning being lost.

bang

By the way, mad props to all the folks who made that event happen - including but not limited to:

-NSSF
-Delta Waterfowl
-TPWD, especially Lake Arrowhead State Park
-Muddy Water Outfitters
-About a dozen Texas Hunter Ed Instructors

If I left anyone out, sorry!

Bring whatever you have. If you are short on gear, they will spot you. Make sure you have appropriate clothing for cold / wet conditions - that's really the only thing they don't have to provide for you.
