A friend just called me about a hunt he's thinking of going on w/ his brother and some others for cow elk. The guy has ~700 ac, doesn't generally sell hunts "publicly", but needs to thin the herd and is willing to sell the hunts for cows @ $500. We don't deal much in elk so just wanted to see what people are seeing/getting for cow elk hunts. Is that a "steal" or about right? Thx in advance.

About 600-800 is the norm. 500 is a good deal.

Talked to my buddy that is going on the first hunt in a week or so. Says the owner of the ranch is open to having more people come out and shoot some elk cows. Tells me the place does have a nice lodge and also has blackbuck, axis, and whitetail (might be leaving something out...). Looks like hunts are going to be available fri-sun @ $100/wknd for lodging (and meals?) + trophy fee.

At a ranch in corpus Christi they had young elk cows for 475 though
