I missed two different turkeys at twenty yards with a shotgun. Come to find out the barrel had got bent(how? I have no idea). The gun shot 12 to 15 inches left at that distance. I also missed a turkey at ten steps when I shot my rifle on my over under 222/20 when I meant to shoot the shot gun. Hunt enough and things happen!

Many years ago when I started bow hunting my first shot ever was at a doe only 14yds. away. I had the fever so bad I hit the dang ground rite under her. Ha! Needless to say I have learned how to compose myself since...

never a deer but i've missed hogs at some pretty embarrasing distances
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

A little over 150 trying to freehand a shot in a swaying pine twig. One and only miss at a deer. I blame my wife.

I shot just under a doe at 660 yards. We had been shooting in 70+ temps the few days before that and had good dope, and when I took the shot it was in the 30's. I didn't take into account this temp drop and add the extra few clicks. I saw my miss hit just on the other side of the deer directly under her shoulder.

Missed a buck at 400 yds shooting off my knee when I was 13 years old. Never missed anything else with a rifle.

I shot at one a little over 200 yards. Two graze marks in the hair on the brisket. Third shot got him though.

Missed a deer at 20 yards with a bow. Bout 6 feet behind him. I hung the bow up and waited 2 weeks for gun season.

Here's a good one for yall. After about a 15 year off period from bowhunting, I decided to start again. This was 4 years ago. I decide since it had been so long, I should probably start out on a doe. I had my new popup and chair. I had never hunted out of one before. I sitting there and all the sudden I have a doe standing broadside at 8 yards. I stepped it off later. Anyway, I grab my bow, ready the arrow, come to draw and the whole time Im thinking that deer is so dead and she doesnt even know it. I hit the release, my bow goes flying from my hand and the arrow sticks in the ground 4 yards from the pop up. She trots off. Im sitting there trying to figure out what just happened. I then begin to realize I have a sensation on the inside of my leg just above the knee like someone punch it. It seems while positioning myself for the shot in my swivel chair, I didnt realize the bottom bow limb was just off my leg. When I hit the release, the bottom limb hit my leg throwing the top of the bow forward, sending the arrow forward and down and the bow jumping from my hand. So there, I not only missed at 8 yards but missed by a margin of 50%, or 4 yards. She came back later but I just laughed and thought to myself that she deserved to live since Im so stupid. I have never shot from a chair again. I always shoot from the ground on my knees and am 100% since ditching the chair.

Totally missed 2 animals with a bow @ 20ish yards. I could hit targets all day but never overcame the fever on animals with the bow. My bow went bye bye in the pay it forward a couple of weeks ago.

Years ago I missed a 3 legged doe at 20 feet. I tried to head shoot and shot right under her melon. I didn't compensate for the scope being above the bore. Lesson learned. She ran off to live another day. Literally. I shot her the next day.

Rifle: 10 steps on a deer that was hung in a fence and was in pretty bad shape. walked up to her and shot point blank to end the misery...both hers and mine Bow: Missed a big ten at 8 yards. Made it through my pre-shot routine to eliminate mistakes, but when it came time to release I guess the excitement was more than I could handle...I moved the bow so I could watch my perfect shot disappear into the deer Moved the bow a tad early and watched the arrow sail over his neck.

There are a lot of people that have experienced this; that is the reason I only bow hunt. I just don’t get a thrill shooting a deer with a rifle, you should have kept the bow and just started off hunting hogs to get used to control under pressure. Sorry you had a bad experience.

Years ago up in a treestand, big 8 came past me hauling butt. By the time I got swung around I had the crosshairs on his spine/lower neck as he was 50 yards running dead away from me. Sqeezed the trigger instead of snapping it for a faster shot. I remember the last thing I saw in the scope is him cutting a sharp left. He was a great 8, this was in Kaufman county close to Prairieville.

Missed a mountain lion at about 140 yards 4 years ago in Davy Crockett NF with a 30-30. Had a climber on my back walking down a trough and saw him in a hay field headed towards someone's house. Just couldn't get steady.

Missed a really nice buck opening weekend of bow season this year from 22 yards. Arrow hit the darn barbwire of the feeder pen and went god knows where. I've been after that buck ever since.
Last year made a great stalk on a nice 10pt down in Blanco County. Got to my spot I wanted to shoot from, calmed down, got a solid rest laying prone, squeezed the trigger and I see dirt fly up about 3 ft from the buck, jumped up on a knee and took a 2nd shot, same thing. Looked down at my gun and the windage screw from the rear leupold scope base was GONE on the left side. FML. Best stalk I've ever put on a whitetail.
