The only thing slower than hunting in Llano county is this thread! banana

A virtue in wildlife ethics is that the hunter has no gallery to applaud or disapprove of his conduct. Whatever his actions, they are dictated by his conscience, rather than by onlookers. It is difficult to exaggerate the importance of this fact."

It has been pretty slow for us. It has just been too hot and windy. We wanted to take more does off early, but they aren't coming to the feeders at all. I sat 5 sessions in a row over the last two weekends and saw nothing but small bucks. No Shooters. The wife did finally get a doe last Sat evening. That good rain we had in Oct greened it up enough that there are lots of young shoots and forbs for the deer to munch on. We will be at it again this weekend and am going to try some different tactics to find some bigger bucks or does to shoot. Maybe the next front that is supposed to come through late in the week will get them moving.

I didn't see this the other day when you posted. Feeder activity is ssssllloowww. Like Fire1 says, that Oct rain shot us in the foot, greened it up and beat acorns down too. Small bucks and does are all we're seeing. We did kill one decent 10 opening weekend. BTY, we're in eastern Llano cty, just out of Kingsland.

We are in the Castell area. Seeing lots of does and the occasional young buck/cull. Mature bucks disappeared around the 1st of the month. As mentioned, lots of forbs available right now, so deer aren't hammering feeders like they were earlier.

Upside is the deer should put some weight on and make it through the winter ok.

Speaking of Llano County. I've heard from a few in this forum that they have seen some Aoudad. I've also wondered if any Axis have made their way the county? Just curious.

We are in the southern part of the county, between Oxford and Castell. We have quite a few Aoudad on our place, but we have a lot of rock which they seem to like. We don't ever see any Axis on our place, but I've seen them along CR113 on occasion.

that makes ME feel a little better about our situation. First year on on lease and first time hunting hill country so we are trying to figure out what we can look forward too. Do any of ya'll protein or feed year round? We have 135 acres we are wanting to improve.

We can't free feed protein. The darn Aoudad suck it all down before the deer can get any. We hate those furry little bastards and have been trying to shoot more of them. We do feed year around and add 50% protein to the spin feeders starting at the end of the season through the early summer. I'd like to think we are helping the deer heard by doing that. What I do know is that turkeys LOVE the protein pellets.

We were up at our place (Eastern Llano) opening weekend and week. Nobody saw a pig. Spent the Thanksgiving week/weekend at the lease. Killed 8 pigs, and could have easily killed more, but heck, sometimes it's good to keep it quiet so you can hunt some deer.... They were everywhere. Anyway, it's amazing how tranziant these animals are, and dadgum, the're back... I guess I was hoping for a miracle. Wish in one hand and $%^& in the other right? Deer were moving well though. No real signs of the rut, but we did see some bigger bucks this trip. Not that many does to speak of, still mainly small bucks... Thought I'd keep the Llano cty reports up!
