Anyone use one to hang fresh kills in? Any drawbacks? Just an idea ive been kicking around. Like a mini cold storage.

that should work great. make sure it can get to at least 35% or below and you would probably need something to cover the floor with so the blood wouldn't get in there and stink to high heaven. I'm looking at getting an old refrig and doing the same thing.

i know a guy who uses an old ready ice machine,( the big upright chest ones with the metal doors like outside a convenient store that you can lock) says it works great but it is kind o hard sometimes to get the deer out

I have one close to that. Took out the shelves and put a pipe across the top. Will hold 3 deer. Sometime with a really big one you have to cut off the legs. Works great.

Great minds think alike! My brother has one slightly larger than that which we did the same thing. Take out shelves, pipe acoss the top and put some drip pans in the bottom. Works excellent!! We can hold an entire elk with room to spare.

And another hint.. Get some large "S" hooks (6 to 8 inches minimum) and sharpen one end. Makes hanging quarters a breeze.

I have seen them used before and they work great on skinned and quartered deer. Hard to get a unskinned deer in one though.

leave the shelves in and you can just lay the quarters on the shelves.

Quarters on top shelves would be dripping on bottom shelves, plus it's a mess to clean the shelves later. Trust me on the hooks idea.

I have hooks on mine. Can get a doe or small buck in it easy. Avis I usually have to quarter. When your finished just hose it out. Sure nice when the weather is warm and you don't have the expense of cooling a big 8'X8' cooler for just a deer or two.

On mine the floor has no lip so the water will just flow out plus I have it tilted forward just a little so the doors will stay open when opened.
