Thinking about buying a few stocker Corsican, Black Hawaiian rams and releasing them on our acre LF Hill Country place. Thought it might be fun to randomly see them and add some variety. Hoping they would eventually get wild and spooky. Probably wouldn't hunt them.

Questions:
-Do I need to worry about worming them every year? Might be pretty tough to catch, no cross fences.
-Place is full of rock, any hoof trimming required?
-In y'alls experience, do they get spooky over time?

Any other advice or comments?

You can buy a food pellet that will have the dewormer in it.
If you don't feed a lot of protein, hoof trimming shouldn't be a necessity.

I have never had to worry about the hoofs on sheep that are not confined to a pen. If you don't hand feed them they will get semi wild. The worming pellets or a "Safe Guard" block is a good idea.

What's a fair going rate on adult stocker rams? Seems like I've seen them for around $200 per head on average. Seen lambs for $60 to $80, but would prefer to go adults because of the coyotes.

Price depends completely on size and horn quality. You can pay anywhere from $75 - $500 (or more for really big rams). For most looking for rams in the high-20's to low 30's you're going to be looking at somewhere between 250 and 350 depending on the color mix.

If you shoot at them, they will get spooky, but they'll probably never be as spooky as mouflons or other natural exotic breeds.

Mind your fence a bit - if new, you're ok, but they will get out at gaps or hog slips if you have an older fence - esp if just getting rams.

we did this on our lf ranch near hillsboro. The sheep we released made it one day. The coyotes ran them down and all that was left was bones. This was 24 hr. later. Make sure the your predators are not going to be a problem.

Well, I could patch the fence well enough to keep sheep in, but not to keep song dogs out. No shortage of coyotes on our place. Since I don't want to get a jenny or a Great Pyrenese it sounds like I need to reconsider. I guess I figured the adult rams could hold their own, but doesn't sound like it.
