So here is the buck I killed on Tuesday evening of this week on MLD III. I have been helping a friend out with his ranch and his deer program. He asked my to run trail cams and look at his herd overall. I found several mature 8 point mainframe bucks along with other cull/management bucks. One 8 point in particular caught my eye. I ask the land owner if he or someone in his family wanted to shoot this 8 point in particular, if not I wanted to pay hunt him. He said he did not so I could. I knew the buck worked 4 different protein feeders and had not been seen out of a deer stand or in an oats patch yet. I built a brush blind at a "Y" in a road where I could see about 325-375 yds 2 ways and about 200 yrds another. Sat there Sat. pm and Sunday am and pm and did not see this buck but several other nice younger bucks and one mature 10 point with a mulie fork on G2 that was aroudn 150 or so gross. I could not hunt again till Tuesday pm and it was warm. I decided to hunt a tripod that overlooked a tank about 450 yrds from where I was hunting the brush blind but could not see this tank. I sat there with swirling winds and had a bobcat walk about 10 yrds from me and it smelled me and trotted off into the brush. As it continued on I could tell which way it went as the deer snorting around 250-300 yrds away and they were raising heck. I thought great. Then I had a doe catch my scent as the wind swirled at sundown and blew and ran. I thought the hunt was blown. I had only seen 2 doe, 1 fawn and 2 bucks. Very slow. About 15 minutes before dark I looked across the tank and spotted a deer that had walked out. There was one lone tree and it was between me and this buck. I had put out corn on the tank dam earlier. It took him for ever to move and when he turned to the left and walked I thought now I can pick a hole. He immediately whirled and walked back the way he had come from. I thought just great he is going to leave now without a shot and not touch the corn. By this time that little thing called buck fever was wearing on me. The buck turned again and came down into the tank without stopping. He walked to the water and was looking straight at me at 91 yrds. I had the safety off and when he turned I put one round through both shoulders and was shocked he did not drop right there. He staggered into the tank and turned and ran before I could bolt another round. You all know that moment of doubt you get and I got it bad right then. I knew I had made a good shot but was not sure. I thought I heard the buck stumble and crash into brush. I immediately got down and went to look for blood and found none at the tank. Walked in on the wrong trail and then looked to my right and seen him dead about 30-40 yrds from the tank. I was shocked as he grew once on the ground. This is the second best looking buck I have ever killed. He was HF for those who just have to know. He is a main frame 4x4 with mule deer forks on his G2s and one kicker also. Score is up to you. Sorry about the longwinded story.

Great buck! Love the mass and kicker.

Your story is a good example of why they call it "hunting". Seems like the big bucks know what happens when you walk by a blind.

Thanks for posting!

I have to wear sunglasses into the woods, because the deer would recognize me, an just surrender with their hooves up.

You may have lost the bet, but I think you are pretty much the winner when I look at the picture of your buck.

It was a complete pass thru which is unusual for me since I shoot highpoint of the shoulder shots. He was running up out of a steep pit since the tank was low and I guess the blood stayed in the cavity until he hit level ground. I took the wrong trail first and then when I drug him out to where the pics were taken I found a great blood trail.

Lol Im sure I would of tore up another popup blind if that buck walked out..and probably shot every tree, and the jitters would of shook my scope off my gun.

Awesome deer.

All these huge 8 's with split g2's are killing me

Great Story and MONSTER 8!!! Beautiful deer and I still think that it rivals your other one, but that is a tough one to compete with.
