Just got back from the lease and thought I would share a few pics. The deer were really predictable early in the week but by mid week they started pushing the Does a little bit and it was VERY difficult to figure out where they were going to be at any given time. The bucks had all but abandoned the feeders by late in the week.

First morning at the lease I shot this big pig (see full story here)

http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/u...ZY_STORY#UNREAD

Same morning I shot the big pig my dad shot this one with his old school Marlin 30-30.

This big guy is next on the hit list. This is the only pic I have of him so he may have been just passing through.

The second afternoon at the lease we had a north wind so I decided to hunt a stand I usually never hunt. Just before 7pm I had a 4 point and a 6 point at the feeder and they started getting nervous. About 30 seconds later I caught movement coming down the ravine towards the deer and once I picked up the binos I could see it was a Yote. I quickly picked up the little Remington Model Seven 7mmSAUM and hit her as she was trotting down into the creek bottom at about 160 yards. At first I thought I missed because I saw her take off in a full sprint down the hill. Then I paned back over with the scope and could see a HUGE red spot where she was at when I let the bullet fly. I made my way down the mountain and went to where I thought I could see blood through the scope and sure enough there was a whole pool of blood where I hit her, then I could see the massive blood trail going down into the bottom so I followed it for about 60 yards before finding my prize. Not sure how she dumped that much blood at the point of impact and still made it that far but she did. I know some of you guys see Yotes all the time but they are very rare on our place. I have only seen 3 on this place since 2007 and I bet I could count on one hand how many times I have heard them at night since then as well.

Here is the pool of blood where I hit her. This picture was taken the next day so most of the bright red had dried up. I am telling you this was the most dramatic point of impact and blood trail I have ever seen on any animal.

Here is a view from where I shot her from. Red circle is where I shot her, and the blue circle is the feeder at 175 yards.

Few days later a strong cold front moved through bringing with it high winds and rain. My dad decided he was just going to stay in camp and watch the World Series so I talked him into letting me take his bow out and see if I could get a Doe. So I went out a little early and made a little ground blind and the first deer I saw was a pretty decent buck but I let him pass. About 20 minutes later I caught something dark colored coming through the cedars. I figured it was a hog so I drew back and when it steped into my shooting lane I could see it was a Sika Deer. After getting pics of these things for several years and never actually seeing one it didn’t take me long to release the arrow. He ran about 50 yards before crashing. This was the first time I have hunted with a bow since 2007. I didn’t get any good pics of this one because I didn’t want the rain to get my camera wet.

Woke up to our first frost on the 29th.

JCB, do you guys have exotics on your ranch or are they escapees from somewhere else?

Im on the same place and we just have a few free ranging exotics. The Sika seem to be back in the thick hilly stuff. Its a big wild place, 5500 acres, I think. All kinds of weird critters show up from time to time.

It's in N Coke county. The place looks like an old Marlboro commercial in a lot of places.

Yep they are just free range strays. We even have 4 or 5 Zebras right now as well.

rofl

Let me kill my buck first and I will take you back there and see if we can find you a pig. They move around alot though. I cant imagine them not being where you are since you have some water.
