Hey everyone, I have favor to ask. . . I am a 19 old college student with a huge urge to hunt. I have grown up around guns and have learned all of the necessary safety skills, but have only had the opportunity to hunt a few times. One dove is probably all I have ever bagged. My grandfather was an avid hunter but is unable to teach me anything due to his old age. My father was born in Asia and never had the chance or interest in hunting. I do not want hunting to die in my family so I am asking for some help. If anyone is willing to take me under their wing and teach me their favorite pastime of hunting I would graciously appreciate it. I am a safe and responsible gun owner and young man. I am willing to try any type of hunting. I have access to a number of guns, I own a 12 gauge shotgun and a .243 rifle. I can also acquire many other guns from my grandfather. I will complete my hunter safety course and acquire my license on Nov. 5. I am willing and able to travel to DFW area, Central Texas, and East Texas. I am willing to buy my own ammunition and gear needed. I will take any help I can get, please PM any questions or response.

Here is a link that might help you get into hunting.

Welcome to the forum.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Do you already have a place to hunt? If not then you might get a annual hunting permit through the TPWD and go hunt. Stay safe and enjoy.

Agree. Or knock on doors until you find a landowner that will allow you to hunt and you will probably wear out your knuckles. Texas is pretty much lease hunting and most lease members don't take too kindly to letting folks hunt for free when they are paying the $$$$$. Good luck!

I'm planning on getting the permit to utilize the public land, I just mainly need the help in what to do and how to do things. It would be easier to decide what kind of hunting I enjoy most if I had someone to do it right with.

If you post your location maybe a THF buddy will take you under their wing and show you the ropes or tracks. Lots of books and magazines to read while your waiting.

I'm in the DFW area, but could also travel to my home town in central texas, and have a place to stay in east texas.

Rocksprings, Texas. Angoras! Good deer out there, a family member of mine owns a few hundred acres out there. Been tromping around those parts since I was a kid. They are just some of those kinda people that like leaving the wildlife alone. . . besides the hogs of course. . .
