Saw 3 young bucks chasing and dogging 7 does this morning near Buda (Hays Co.) So it appears that it is beginning pretty much on time.

my lease is east of Lufkin in Nacadoches County. Last weekend two bucks were killed. On was chasing a doe and his neck was all swole up.. The other stood in the pipeline with 2 bucks and two doe and ate. So it been kinda weird this year.

Went out this morning. Didn't see a lot of activity but did see a few does and young bucks. Also had 8 tom turkeys move through. Hog activity at night has been high. I think it's time for some midnight hog eradication exercises.

Driving back to camp at 9:43 AM I was driving a fenceline between two of our pastures. I saw doe jump the fence and stop in the road ahead of me. Seconds later she took off as a big mature slick 8 (120's with 12" G2's) jumped over the fence in fresh pursuit. The were probably only 20 yards in front of me. He never even looked at my truck. He was completely zoned in on her and only her.

The rut is in full swing in Hays County.

We are well into post rut here on the coast. The does seem to be pretty well unmolested and the bucks are back in small groups.

Stupid deer. Don't they know that deer season is still 2 weeks away?

I think TPWD should open the season two weeks earlier in areas of the state that has an early rut. If S. Texas gets two additional weeks at the end of the season then the HC should get two additional weeks at the start of the season. Fair is fair.

Last week in Henderson county bucks were checking does and acting like they wanted to chase, this week seen lots of bucks but they have not been interested in the does and they are still in bachelor groups.

My son lives in Angelton and he said a buck ran across the road this weekend coming back from school, he noted that his head was down , sniffing and in full persuit.

What county you hunting, TB?

Hays Co. always starts a week or two before the rifle opener. Seems that the farther west you go the later it starts.

Brazoria County has a very early rut. Begins first week in October, typically.

Is there a rut forecast by county anywhere, or at least region? Last year I found a calender showing the dates for the peak of the rut for Rains county but cant find it now. Anyone have any info? Thanks.

The link has the TPWD ruts based on fawning.

I'm not sure which region you're in, but I'm sure you can find it.

Headed back up to Denton Co tomorrow for an afternoon hunt. Seen some fragmentation of bachelor groups in past week, but it should be another 2 weeks before things kick into high gear.

Thanks for posting again Cameron, stxranchman posted this a week or so ago but posts get lost over time. This is the definitive study and at least for where I hunt(4 different counties)in different parts of the state it has always been spot-on.
