This is the widest 4 pt I have ever seen. I would like for him to be my cull, but I hunt in an AR county, and by AR rules, he is my trophy. I have him aged at 2 1/2 and not sure if he will ever be anything more.

I don't think he is wide enough to meet AR's IMO.

Looks pretty young. I probably wouldn't shoot him yet.

Give him another year. This years antler growth was not as good as last years. He could have been an 8 on a wet year

Here is another pic more head on. I think he is close to 13, but likely too close to chance. He will very likely get another year.

I've seem bigger 4 points...let him ride. One deer isn't going to make or break anything. If he's still a 4 point next year, whack him

You have a young deer that is easily wider than 13 inches. Let him go for another year and see what you have.

Just glad I hunt where I do with who I do and that's about all I can say on that! given the option I know who I would go with and that's all I can say on that. I wouldn't shoot the 4 pointer in question on my place...too many other deer need to go first.

There was an interview that Cable did with the top TPWD Biologist and he said that he would leave the larger deer this year and take the ones that don't have the better genetics. I believe STX also manages with the same philosophy. Don't see the need to continue feeding him if I don't think he will be a true trophy in 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 years. It has nothing to do with shooting young deer.

That deer is too damn young to have any idea what he will be in three or four years. That is the bottom line!

A very young deer with a 14-15 inch spread during extreme drought conditions should get a pass.

That deer is too damn young to have any idea what he will be in three or four years. That is the bottom line! There are many ranches that would not let that deer feed another year. So, that is your bottom line, but not for other places. Guess it would depend on location, past experience, collected data and deer herd

If you are on MLD and need to fill buck tags, take him. You gotta start somewhere.
