Taking the glands off a rutting buck you've killed and use them for a lure. Had a few fellas trying to get their buddies to remove them off of their bucks they killed to use as lures...especially the rank ones. If so...how long are they good for and how do you maintain them. It seems like it would logically work but..........

We used to do this alot. We would cut out the tarsal glands in the back legs and if the deer where rutting, we would empty the bladder into a can and bottle it. Works great and is cheaper and fresher than buying it.

Between hunts we keep them in an air-tight plastic bag in the freezer. Use them over and over during the season.

I know this is a loaded question but........to what success have you used the glands and had a buck come in to them???
