The 70% chance didn't come through and it turned out to be a heck of an evening.

Got out a little late but before the feeder went off. There was no corn under the feeder so I felt good about some activity.

Feeder went off at 5:15 and I was ready thinking it would get hit quick, but no such luck. Sat around about an hour with no action except a lonely rabbit.

Sitting there looking at my bow looked back up and there were 4 turkeys. 1 Gobbler with about a 6-7" beard and maybe one real young jake. With 2 hens. They hung out a good while but I was looking for more than a turkey so they got a free pass.

About 20 or so minutes later a 1x2 spike came back. We have decided he needed to get taken out and it was getting late enough I had made the decision he was going to get an arrow. He kept pacing back and forth and finally I got him in a perfect quartering away position so i drew back. As I did the old tripod I was in squeaked pretty good and he jumped up. He didn't leave but was in the 40-50 yard range and snorting so I kept the bow drawn thinking maybe I still had a shot but I finally had to let down after a long while. He snorted some more and left.

A little bummed on getting busted on my potential first archery deer it was 10 minutes later that this buster walks out.

Still had plenty of light left, photo is old. I wasn't going to make the same mistake twice. Got my bow ready as soon as he came out. He slowly worked towards the feeder. He came to right about 20 yards and turned away leaving a nice quartering away shot. Let the arrow fly and he took off. When he ran off I saw the arrow was stuck in him. I heard steps through the woods and I thought I heard him hit the ground and stop. I really didn't want to push it so I hiked back to camp and grabbed the jeep.

Drove back to the feeder. It was getting dark but still had a little light left. Started off with foot prints then quickly picked up blood.

Blood started picking up. Shortly after I found the arrow. Then it got real heavy and not long after.

I thought I was going to drag him back to the jeep and put him out in the pasture but after a couple feet I soon realized that he was going to stay. No idea on the weight but feel he easily made 100 if not closer to 200.

Great vital shot. Snuck in behind the ribs then had good lung meat on the arrow. Pass through would have been nice but I am only shooting 60 lbs.

All in all I'm glad the weather held. Apparently out there they didn't get quite as much rain. As it was clearly wet but nothing like here in town.

Can't wait for the next opportunity to go after a trophy buck.

Nice pig, so much more fulfilling to stick one with an arrow up close and have em squeal! Pigs are tough, but I would reason your broadhead has more to do with not getting a pass through than the poundage, thus speed, of your bow.

I understand the heavy hog thing. This is how I take the meat off any hog.

Slit the skin down the backbone, peel it back, and filet out the backstraps. Continue the slit along the hams, peel the skin off them, and separate the ball socket. That's it. I don't mess with the front shoulders or ribs. I know there's some meat there but not enough for me to mess with.

This way you don't have to drag the hog, gut the hog, or lift the hog. Everything is done on the ground right where it falls. Just an option.

Threw a shoulder on the smoker and did it just like pulled pork. Tasted Great! or may have been all the beer we drank...

Could be in some places. Our lease has a big spring that comes out of the ground and runs through limestone beds. Tons of acorns and clean spring water may make ours taste a little better. Or it could be that the meat is taken immediately and chilled down instead of after the hog has hung around for a while. I killed one with my bow once in East Texas that the processor estimated at over 500 lbs live weight. After I had gutted her, skinned her, cut off the legs at the knees, and cut the head off, the carcass that I took to the processor weighed 325 lbs. She tasted like any pork I ever bought in a store.

Scott next time we go out, I'll show you a quick and easy way to walk out of the woods carrying some of the best cuts.

I sure hope I get all my affairs handled by Friday I sure don't want to be tied up another week end.

Nice shot BTW.

Sad thing about all this was this is from the stand I had you hunt last time and had planned for you to hunt again....

Was really just concerned with eraticating the hogs, they have been tearing up the place around the house and it will all be planted soon so fewer hogs will always be better.

I'm waiting for a smaller BBQ size one in the near future.
