How long do I need to be a resident of Texas to buy a resident license to hunt. I am also a landowner

I'm pretty sure thats all you need, since you already have a residence. But don't take my word for it, call Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Found this on the TP&W site

Residency is proven by any three of the following (all documents must reflect the applicant's name and a physical address in Texas). Items marked with a * must have been issued at least 6 months prior to license or permit application. Except for a drivers license, documentation is not required at time of purchases or while hunting or fishing:

a current Texas homestead property tax statement
the most recent 6 months of utility bills
the most recent 6 months of paycheck receipts
the person’s most recent tax return from the Internal Revenue Service
a statement from a parole board or probation officer stating that the person has continuously resided in Texas for the 6 months immediately preceding the application for a license or permit
a valid Texas driver's license*
a current Texas voter registration certificate*
a current vehicle registration*
A NON-RESIDENT is any person who does not meet the requirements listed for qualification as a Texas resident.

That should pretty well cover the info you need.

I knew it was more than just a drivers license and voter registration card because when I checked with New Mexico I saw all of the hoops that I would have to jump through. That and the requirements for getting resident tuition at the state colleges and universities are hell if you have ever lived anywhere else in the past few years.

If I was him I would be getting to know all of the farmers and ranchers in that area between Tahoka and Brownfield, 2 years ago when we were headed to the mountains we saw the biggest buck that I have ever seen in Texas was between Tahoka and Brownfield. At first my wife said look at that elk, we stopped and as it got closer we could tell that it was a whitetail buck, and as my wife is my witness he had antlers that were huge, only a 8 point but massive as anything I have ever seen.

FYI, they don't allow people who have moved to West TX to ever purchase a license.

At least you match the number of donuts you eat with the number of beers you drink

Only if you let native born west Texans (hint hint nudge nudge) come hunt with you....we have to provide a sufficient level of supervision . Where did you buy land at?? Are you in West, TX or west Texas...there is a difference??

I think he is Brownfield or that area, or at least that is what I saw this morning when I made my post with the TP&W info.

I was thinking of using it as a midway break for our trips to Ruidoso, get there the night before, do the morning hunt and head on to the mountains, and do the same on the way back to Abilene. I could check it out when we go at Christmas that way he could make any improvements that we might need.

Spanky's is an AWESOME place to eat. They have fried cheese that is so good it will make your tongue slap your gums out trying to get to it, and the He-Man woman hater cheeseburger pretty much speaks for itself.

Dogcatcher make sure the roads are in good condition no ruts please

There are some places in that area that if the dew is heavy you will have a rut that is a foot or more deep. We will let him just chauffeur us around, no point in getting our trucks messy.
