I have used tinks many times and I've had had more deer run off than I have had come in,but having said that, most of the deer that ran off were doe,I've had bucks come in sniffing the air, smell the tinks and walk right over to it(scent pad).IMO the best attractant is the real thing, doe.Give them water, plenty of grub, throw some rye grass seed around your feeder and pray for rain.

Interesting observation. Anyone else have doe scent scare away does? That's counter productive but I have never noticed never thought about it either. The real thing would be best.

We use Black Widow deer lures, they have worked well for us in Kansas, Nebraska and in South Texas. They also have a sow in heat lure that is off the hook on the boars, big and small it gets to them all...

They wouldn't happen to be a sponsor would they?

It depends on the deer. I used a non-estrus doe pee scent with reliable success around Fairfield. Deer would walk right up to one of the cotton balls and smell it. On the same lease, a hunting buddy arrowed 2 bucks within 15 minutes (used to be a 2 buck County) and both were standing in the same spot sniffing a cotton ball soaked in Tinks 69.

But...that's the ONLY place I've ever personally seen any scent attractant work. Maybe Fairfield deer are just not as bright as the rest.

But how do you really know if it attracts deer? Did the deer come in because of the attractant or did they come in for the feeder and happen to stop by and smell the urine? Would they have come in without it anyway?

I suppose if it gives a hunter more confidence then go for it. I personally think it's a waste of time and money. I will not be using it. I've got more important things to spend my money on.

It's just like all of the other gimmicks that are produced and pushed on hunters to "give us an edge". In reality it's just another way to get us to part with our money. No different than the traveling Snake Oil Peddlers of years gone by.

I once tried an off brand on sale at wally world. It sat in my gun cabinet for 2 years because to me it smelled like actually "perfume", certainly not like piss like in T69 or others.

I tried it on a "who cares" hunting day. I placed it 60 yards up wind from my stand, this was near to after the rut( late Nov). Every buck that walked the trail downwind, hauled a$$ to the bottle as soon as they got "wind" of it, looked around for the doe and took off up wind looking. I was shocked, I could smell it from where I was! Only time I've ever seen a real genuine response, outside of just curiosity. Smelled nothing like ordinary deer pee.

We didn't have feeders or stands. We just hunted where we hoped to see deer. Both he and I watched the deer change their course and go to the scent balls.

I used it on my place in the past. Not many deer to begin with so thought I'd give it a go. I put out the little scent pad on a limb. When I got in my blind and looked out the window I had the smallest little buck I've ever seen getting a snoot full. So, I guess it worked that one time... confused2

I have had some success with Tinks 69 on several occasions. I think the real key to using the 69 is to use it sparingly, one very small drop placed in a good shooting location. I harvested a doe and buck back to back off of a single drop of 69 placed on the tip of a branch @ 20 yds. The doe was sniffing the tinks just before I arrowed her, the buck which I did not know was following her was shot at 28yds while trying to get to her, she was standing about 30 yards uphill of my stand bleeding out. He was my first P&Y a nice big bodied Kansas 10pt.
If the rut it not on I think most of these scents put the deer on caution. I have also heard some good things about code blue but nothing like the real thing.
