Already have the bucks running the does here in Matagorda County...
Any other counties seeing this yet?

Only about half the bucks around here are out of velvet so far.

Our deer are all still in velvet in Duval Co, but I saw a buck last night on the way home with his head down running, reminded me of a trailing buck, around San Antonio.

Yep. I saw a good buck out two weeks ago in broad daylight near a road. Haven't seen them running does on my place yet though.

They always seem to start around here at the end of September and go until mid October.

Wish these deer over here would wait about 1 month longer... When rifle season starts the big ones are already nocturnal... Maybe this drought will keep them coming to the feeders...

I was under the impression these coastal "Avery Island" whitetails, or whatever they're called, rutted early like this anyway? The deer in, say, Ft. Bend County may already be done. Is that not typically the case in Matagorda?

They do always start pretty early... Just wishful thinking in my part... My lease in Hill County is showing absolutely no signs of rut... With this falls refueling outage pushed out to October 28th its looking like my season is gonna be a tough one!!!

When I hunted the Aransas Wildlife Refuge the rut was going on in late Sept there.

Yep, Brazoria, Matagorda are all generally the same time, before bow season lol. Thats what makes it a bit tougher to get those big thicket bucks, but you always have the second rut up

Our bucks have shed the velvet.By my estimation 2 more weeks and the bucks will start cruising, not that they'll find a doe in heat yet but they will be looking.

That is right, doesn't mean rut has started.

Saw a few signs of pre-rut at my place in Matagorda CO. A few bucks skirmishing in the afternoon. Shouldn't be long and they'll be running does.
