CHILLICOTHE -- City Council delayed a vote to allow bow hunting in the city limits after it was clear the measure would not have enough votes to pass Monday night.
Council members Jean Malone, D-4th Ward, and Queen Lester, D-3rd Ward, were absent from the meeting, and three members present at the meeting said they would not vote for the item. Left with only four votes of the nine-member council, Parks and Recreation Chairman Tom Trutschel, R-1st Ward, asked the item not be read. "I don't want to have to wait, because there's a bunch of hunters that are waiting for it," Trutschel said. Council members Dustin Proehl, D-At Large, Joe Sharp, D-At Large, and Pat Patrick, R-6th Ward, all cited safety concerns in their reasons for voting against the ordinance. Deer bow season in Ohio started on Saturday, and Trutschel said he hopes to pass the ordinance as soon as possible.
