I have trail cam pics of a pack of 15-25 hogs coming to a feeder every morning like clockwork right when the feeder goes off. My friend and I are planning on hunting them tomorrow morning and plan to sit in some bushes about 20 yards from the feeder. Our hope is to kill as many as possible and I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on how effective the stopping power of buckshot is from 20-30 yards on 100-200lb pigs? Is buckshot and semi auto shotguns a good idea or would you use slugs or a rifle? I also have a mini-14, but think I could get off more accurate shots at running pigs with the shotgun. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'll post pics on Monday if it's a success.

buck shot will work.... I would prefer a semi auto rifle myself though.

Buck shot will work on the size of hogs described and at the ranges described. If you want to kill bigger hogs at greater range, get some Dixie Slugs TRI BALL. It is 3 20ga balls (.62) and they will kill any hog alive.

Let us know how the buckshot works as I am also thinking of using buckshot to clear out a heard of pigs at a friend's feeder. Figure two people throwing buckshot could certainly thin the herd. Especially as my friend is fairly new to his hunting rifle we think the shotgun will be the best. I am planning on using 3 1/2in shells for a little more power and range. Most of this herd are under 170 so I think it will work.

I have quite a bit of experience with hogs and buckshot. 12 gauge 00 buck at 20 yards is incredibly effective. My son has taken 100lb. pigs at 15 yards with buck...never even ran...they just dropped. Took a 180lb boar at 25 yards with 12guage 00....he ran five feet and dropped. Try it....you won't be disappointed.
(When I cleaned that 200lb hog, I found three of the balls had gone completely through the hog and lodged in the fat layer on the opposite side of the entry wound. A couple other balls had gone completely through him.)

It should work, my concern would be that 20-30 yards as hogs have good sense of smell.

If you want to make sure the pigs are more interested in the corn than you sitting twenty yards away, throw out a five gallon pail of beer/corn mixture...you could probably walk up and pet them, they love that stuff so much

Wow I actually posted just after this post on the killing distance of 00 buck. I and 2 buddies are going tonight to put a hurtin om as many as we can. 1 guy on an AR and 2 of us popin off with 12s and 00buck. We figure he can take out big momma or poppa and we will just mow as many little'uns as possible.
As far smell we always spray down real good with scent killer and it has worked thus far. We walked 30 yrds up on them last time
IF I DONT SUCEED I WILL DIE TRYING
