Always scout the day before if possible. I put out the same species of ducks and the same pattern and try to match what I saw the day before. If im hunting the prairie I use pintail, wigeon, gadwall, GWT, a few BWT and a couple mallard dekes if it is late season. On the bay I put out BWT, Pintail, Redheads, Ringnecks, Bluebills, wigeon, and I have 6 bufflehead that I throw out every now and then. On open water the ducks like to see a lot of white.

Just was curious. I typically use mallard, pintail and BWT decoys and maybe a few woodies in for color. Just depends on what is flying

On the bay I throw out pintail wigeon bwt and ringers. In the Colorado river and when I took a trip to north Texas last year I threw out Gaddys mallards and wigeons and a few teal

on the large lakes in the metroplex I will put out 2dz mallard decoys with about 6-10 gwt decoys along with 1/2 dz widgon and 1/2 dz pintails. a couple of mojo's. if the wind is coming from our backs we spread 1 dz mallards on right & 1 dz on left. then fill in the center with other small groups. put mojos on the side that you like best. Now if we are hunting a point with a cross wind we set up in a J pattern facing into the wind . Go ou40 yards diceryly in front of you blind and start your string going with the wind put decoys in a line and make sure you break the line so duck can swing into the center .Goback to the midlle of the line and start filling up the bend of the j hook pattern also leave some room for them to come in or go thru. Put mojos on the inside of the j hook bend.Good luke Mark
