do cows scare your deer off? 4 days ago we had some people cut our fence on the back of the property. so we have all the cattle in one pasture, where i have two feeders. i have had less and less deer on trail cameras. is it because of the cows?

If they have not had any cattle on the place in a while it might bother them for a few days. They will get used to them.

I have seen deer feed with cows, sometimes at our feeders. I have also seen cows coming in from over 150 yards away and the deer run like I shot at them. I don't believe that the cows will run the deer out of the area, but if the cows decide to hang around the feeders it will effect the number of deer that feed there.

My experience is the cows make so much noise moving around it just makes the deer a little nervous. Some tolerate it some don't.

and they are hanging around my feeder. i went from 1000+ pictures every 4 days of deer to about 150 now. it just makes me nervous with bow season right around the corner.

All I can say is that the new arrivals are not going to make it any easier on your deer. Hopefully by bowseason yoiur deer will have gotten used to the cows and will come back to the feeders. Hunger always overules fear.

Has anyone talked to the owner of the cows to have them removed? If they got through a cut fence, it seems like someone will be missing them and if you are leasing I am sure that your owner would like to know that the cows are on his place.

the cows are the owners. he has trailer park on the back side of his property. some people from the trailer parkcut our fence to sneak on the property and to fish our ponds. we found out about it when we coulodnt find any cows. we are in the process of fixing the fence right now. just alot of work.

Is the owner planning on moving them back to the original pasture? If they are seriously interfering with your hunting, might be worth it to spend a weekend helping move the cows out of your pasture. Feed works great! Not sure how big the hole in the fence is, but might be worth putting up a cattle panel and wiring it off as a temporary fix.

Do you have pens around your feeders?

That does sound bad. Surprising that the cows would make that big of a difference. You sure those folks that cut the fence aren't still going in to your area or walking the place? How big is the pasture you are hunting on?

i caught two guys on trail camera one morning. i dont know if they are still coming through or not. i have a total of 476 acres and that pasture is close to 100 or so acres. i dont understand it, i drive out there and i can get within 40 yards of my feeders and the deer dont run. but everything else spooks them.

they know you and don't consider you a threat. They just haven't figured out the cows yet. Them not running from you will come in handy during your hunts.

I would see what you could do about keeping the other people out of the area. Hopefully the cows won't be an issue once the fence is fixed. Even if the cows are in that pasture, I would think that the deer will get used to them. But, if people are going in and out of the area a lot, the deer will move.

Good Luck

Call the GW and let him investigate the breakin. His presence will get some attention if you get him to come into the subdivision so you can show him the cut the fence. Word will get around really fast.

Some cows can be a bigger PITA than coons sometimes. There are some ornery cows around.

Call the GW and the Sheriff, cutting fences and trespassing is very serious.Be persistent, follow up with them.If they know (LEO'S) you mean business they will probably setup close by and nab these lowlifes.

Yep, the place I hunted last year had some of them ornery Mexican fighting steers on it. They literally chased deer whenever they could.
