Anyone having this problem? Gunsmith told he that he is seeing a lot of issues and claims it is the shells. My 870 started to do this last year but it was with high brass. Of course it is 43 years old. I have some shell latches ordered beacause I know mine is not the shells. It is just simply worn parts.

I can't see how the quality of the shells would allow double feeding... but what do I know. I'd like to hear more why he thinks it's the shells?

Misformed? Smaller diameter rims?

Kind of sounds like the gunsmith doesnt know how to fix it and is blaming the shells. It's a shotgun issue more than a shell issue. If you do find shells that don't give it issue then stick with those I guess.

I can't fathom how factory remington/federal/winchester/pmc/fiochi whatever cause a double feed.

Old worn off shell stops, sure, that makes sense...

Mine didn't double feed, but would eject the spent round out and the next shell out the bottom. I mic'd the ones it kicked out the bottom and found out the shells were swelled just above the brass, where the wad base was.

This was with Winchester and Federal shells. Switched to Remington shells and no more problems since.

My guess is that the shell stop clearance is just out of adjustment, they're usually spring steel, and the tension "relaxes" or the edges are worn.

The gunsmith did not say and I did not ask. I had already ordered shell latches but the left side is on backorder. The only reason I called is because the bozo at Remington said I had to have a gunsmith stake in the latches. The truth is it makes it easier to get the trigger assembly in but operationally they do no need to be staked. I do not believe it is the shells. I have used Rems, Feds, & Wins.
