Anyone in the Coke co. area seeing any deer? I am on a lease off hwy 277 just south of Bronte. We lost almost 500 acres bc of fire in April. Land owner says it is dry and seeing no deer. Just wondering if anyone has property near by that might be seeing deer?

We are north of Blackwell in Nolan Cnty. We got hit pretty hard by the fire too, but are still seeing deer. We've been feeding protein all summer and ate switching to corn now. We do have water which is what I think is making the difference.

Thx, RedSnake....that is good to hear. We have a few tanks (ponds) on the property, but we are not sure if they are dry. The land owner only drives the fence rows to check for down fencing and poachers. I can't get him to check the tanks. We had 5 feeders on the property, but the hogs kept knocking them over, so he gave them all away. Oh well, I would rather hunt in TX, than anywhere no matter how many big deer I see....

I, a little north of Bronte and I am seeing quite a few deer as well as some javelinas. I have kept water and feed all summer long. Not expecting much this season, maybe cull some skinny does. I am going down this weekend and will give you another report.

I hunt coke county off of 87 south west of Bronte and am getting around 600 pics of deer every week or so. A few good shooters and a some good young bucks. We have a few tanks on the place but they are dried up, but the rancher has water stations for his livestock so we always have water.

Thx guys for the update. Brownwood, pls let me know how it looks this weekend. How much did you lose in the fire and where are you buying your corn? We normally buy ours at Town and Country in Bronte.

Hunt-n-agg, thx for the response. If you are off 87, then did you lose a lot in the fire. I hope not.

fftrae, we had the same issue about 10 years ago due to poachers. Are you still hunting that same area this year?

I came out OK in the fire. Didnt get to my two pastures. I use Husky feed up in Blackwell for corn but I lease a pasture up there so it works for me. They are a little cheaper but you would have to buy a lot to make it worth your drive.

We got extremely lucky with the fire. From what our rancher told us it got 4 miles away when it was put out. A few months later we had a smaller fire get to within 4 miles of it. Been lucky so far hope it lasts

A good up and comer.

I only have one week of pics with horns. Had the camera up earlier in the year to see how the deer looked in the drought. I will be back out there this weekend to check the cameras and fill the feeders.

No problem. Hoping to have more this weekend.

From what I have seen on our lease is that not much of anything is being seen during the day right now but when we drive around in the last hour of the day and first hour of the morning we are seeing several deer. Hopefully it is the same thing for you.

Good luck on the upcoming season.

yes ther is a mule deer season for coke county. Not sure what the population is in the area though. Talking to the rancher he used to see them all the time on our lease but said he hasnt seen one in 10-15 years.

OK, just got back from my place north of Bronte and my place West of Blackwell. The range looks terrible. Cactus is dying and even the mesquites are looking bad. I could see the burned area from the big fire at my Blackwell place about 1/4 mile from my pasture. Seeing a few deer and they are sweeping up all the feed my feeders are throwing. Wish I could feed more but corn is 10.75 a bag and so is protein. Hope it rains really soon!
