 when to use certain shells/chokes?

i need some help on when you are supposed to use certain shells and chokes, i have unknowingly ended up with remington heavy dove shells in 6,,7 1/2 and 8 shot, whens the right time to use these and also when do you use certain chokes? thanks

IC is a great dove choke. If the birds are not in your face, you can use a MOD choke.
use the 8's if the birds are close and the 6's if the are further out.

easy enough , i need to see what choke i was using this weekend to see if i can blame how bad i did on that
