got a question for you. I currently have a honda ridgeline that was a daily vehicle for the last couple of year-has 100K miles on it and BB value is around 18K. But gas was killing me so I found a cheap little corolla so now the $18,000 ridgeline hangs out in the garage, only to come out for hunting season and deer lease maintenece trips-I figure I will run it about 6 wks a year total.

Anyhow, what I am thinking about is trading in the ridgeline on an older jeep (around 8k) and pulling the cash out for other things. What I am wondering is how you guys use your jeeps...right now I can load up to 25-30 50lb sacks of corn in the ridgeline and stand in the bed of the truck to fill feeders. I have been told that if I take the rear seat out of the jeep I might get 10-15 sacks in it at a time. Is the hassle worth the trade off?

I do have a 10 ft utility trailer that I could load down with corn, but don't want to fool with trying to back the trailer into a feed pen. I am thinking I can either stand on the hood of the jeep or get a ladder to fill feeders and just have to run back and forth to the utility trailer.

I guess what I am wondering is how usefull is a jeep vs a truck with a bed when it comes to doing chores on a deer lease?

I would stick with the truck, don't get me wrong the jeep is fun but the major drawback is space and having to store all your hunting gear. If you ever decide on a high rack, the truck will also make that easier. I've been in my jeep for the last 4 years, all I have it for is hunting, and I'm trying to get out of it into a truck. JMO though.

My brother just bought a 2012 Unlimited Rubicon. Traded in his Tundra. It's nice,...but your right IDK about it being a daily driver. Either way hope it lasts for him. Also the 2012 came out with a stronger engine compared to 2011 and past models. 80 more HP and better feul mileage.

Those honda's must really hold their resale at 18,000 with 100,000 miles. I agree with the others on the jeep my dad has a 2001 sahara with the inline 6 and it doesn't like to pull our 12ft trailer to good with anything over just a four wheeler and 8-10 bags of corn. Not power wise but the short wheel base makes them handle funny with a trailer IMO. Now off roading at the lease is another story, we have a blast in it.

If you want something that will offroad everyone under the table...get a Jeep. I drive mine daily with 35" mud tires. Jeep isn't just a vehicle, it's a way of life. There's a reason they say "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand." Cuz until you buy one, you won't understand. Sure there's days I wish I had my trucks back. But then I remember that the top and doors didn't come off my trucks.

I have had a CJ-5 and now my new 2011 Wrangler Sport Unlimited. I kept my 1995 F-150 to take to the lease because I can throw a bunch of whatever in the back. Not so with either of my Jeeps. Don't get me wrong, I love my Jeep but as far as practicallity goes for a deer lease, my opinion is the truck is the way to go.

i've got an 08 4dr, if you deceided to take the top off and fold the seast down you can load up, not really sure how much tough, it will make it through most farm terain without any issues, and they are fun to play with. on the other had i am just getting into hunting myself and have quickly realized i wish i had a truck a- haul more crap, b- load up a 4 wheeler or motorcycle, c-tow more, downside to a truck, top and doors stay on, oh yeah and i would need it as a daily family driver so that means 4 doors and more money, lol

we have an 08 Rubicon 4dr that my wife drives daily with 35's. Love the Jeep!! They have a lot more room than you think. I've fit three big dogs and all mine and my wifes hunting gear in the back and a few extra things and the dogs had plenty of room to lay down for the drive.

Get a Grand Cherokee. I have a 2000 GC lifted on 33's and it will go the same places a wrangler will with twice the storage space! Rear seats fold down flat and you can fit a ton of corn.

Had a CJ-5, J20 Pickup, Old full size Cherokee Laredo, Newer Grand Cherokee, full size GMC, and now a Ford Ranger Ext Cab. (All 4X4) There is a certain spot for that CJ but for lease use I wish I had that old '65 J20 PU back.

For all around use I've gotten attached to the little Ranger PU. Room behind the front seats, quad doors, and plenty of space in the bed & 5000+ lb towing capacity.

Full size GMC wasn't bad but didn't manuever in tite spots like the Ford does. Wife won't let me use her Cherokee for anything other than getting to the blind & back.

I am a Lubbockite with a jeep I hunt out of. I enjoy the jeep, but I won't buy another one that is not four doors. In my '98 TJ, with the back seat in, there is no room to haul hardly any gear. Take the back seat out, and you have a little more room for gear but can't take more than one friend along.

Tonight, my daughter and I went dove hunting in the jeep. The rear seat is out, so I load my gear and my dog in the back and it is fairly full (that includes putting a few things on a safari rack). Then my buddy says he wants to go too. He had to drive his own car out to the lease.
