Who do you guys use to handle your conversions on saiga shotguns? About what can I expect to pay?
If the stores closed up tomorrow, a man should have enough Ammunition, Bic lighters,Tabasco sauce, Whiskey, and freeze dried Coffee to last him and his family until the casket. Johnny Loco

Roberts from this forum is the best. JBI Armory in denton. He did mine a couple weeks ago and did an awesome job and turnaround was fast. I think he charges 155ish (for labor, I brought my own parts), and will go through your gas system, polish fire control group etc. Mine was a "vodka special", so thank god I didn't do the conversion myself, because it wouldn't of ran worth a darn. My smith won't work on AK's, I send everyone now to JBI Armory who want AK work done. http://www.jbiarmory.com/

What does the conversion do exactly for these guns. Well, the picture of mine is how is how they are supposed to look and how they are in Russia. To meet importation laws they have to more sporting. So the trigger is further back. The conversion moves the trigger forward like its supposed to be, and then any AK stock will fit. Here is a stock picture I found. See how far back the trigger is. In addition the gas port needs opening on most of these guns. Mine only came with two ports, JBI put in 2 more. Now mine will cycle anything I put in it, this is another good reason to have the conversion done by Jim. Had he not opened up my ports I would not of been able to shoot the cheap target loads.

Many people do it themselves. I did, and it's not difficult.
I would suggest going to the saiga-12 forum, they have step by step instructions with photos, videos and all sorts of things.

Did mine myself, AK based guns are easy to work on. I didn't open the ports but I did add a 4th as mine was one of the versions with 3, polished the internals in the needed spots without over doing it, and opened up the hole between the barrel and gas puck because mine covered 2 or the origional 3 ports. I went with a 12" barrel because I didn't want to move the gas block back,

That is awesome. Good job. So with a 12" barrel does that require a $200 stamp? I've been contemplating finding a Saiga 12, converting, and shortening barrel. Been watching too much Sons of Guns

I'm not sure if you saiga guys want to polish your bolt and stuff, but here's a page that gives a fairly detailed way to do it. i'm almost done with my saiga. i am not polishing the action like the pics in his, but i am cleaning it up on the insides to make for smoother cycling. anyone else done this or anything to make it cycle smoother? pix? http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/55377-my-saiga-12-from-start-to-finish/
