For all those hunting Grapevine lake this year be careful. The corp issued 500 permits for waterfowl hunting.By changing the wording on the map you can only hunt 50 acres on the lake. Change says cannot hunt within 600ft of a no hunting area, they made aimost all of the old area surrounded by red. Even tho the water says waterfowl area you cannot hunt because you do't have 600ft to the red shoreline. Was told that people and towns don't want hunting and hunting on lewisville has been done the same. This was from the corp office and the smirky smiling lady that told me. So be carefull about what you do on corp lakes they sort of do a half-ads job of telling us no you can't hunt here any more.

Another reason I hate public hunting. Besides, the maps they issue are absolute crap.

I don't think Lewisville is that bad. We had a homeowner video tape us walking out of a spot last year. We asked him if there was a problem and he got very defensive and didn't want to talk and said he had our license plates and that we would be hearing from an attorney soon.

We immediately called a couple of game wardens to see if we were in the wrong, and it was confirmed that we were legal to be hunting where we were. It's been almost a year, and we've never heard anything from the guy or any attorney. He's just another old home owner that doesn't want to wake up to the sounds of shotguns on the lake even though he built the house there.

If it were me on Grapevine and the map is shaded as a waterfowl hunting area, I would hunt it regardless of the 600 foot rule from some dang red shoreline. The map says it's huntable, so hunt it. The homeowners can kiss my a$$.

Who wants the headache, I gave up on those two lakes years ago, to many people trying to get into the same spot.

Wasted a few hours last week scouting places out there that are legal on the map but not in reality.

Doesn't the rule say you have to be 600ft away from a no hunting area unless you are at least 6 feet off the bank, in the water?

Straight from the horse's mouth...

You will need to be 600 feet from the shoreline at Marshall Creek Park. The blue areas on the map are only a reference to where the lake is and where the hunting area begins on the lake.

Subject: Park verses waterfowl hunting area

Hello Kenneth,

I'm not real sure what the rules are. Looking at the hunting map, the Marshall Creek Park seems to encompass the entire south shoreline, but the water is color coded blue to indicate it is open to Migratory Bird Hunting.
On the same map it states that you must remain 600 feet away from the red areas, which includes the park shoreline.

Can I hunt from my boat in this spot 6+ feet from the bank or do I have to be 600 feet from the shoreline?

Does that mean where the shoreline USED to be? The water line is probably 600 feet from that. grin

Otherwise you better have some really long decoy lines. wink

Basically you can hunt the creek or the dead north cove with 500 other hunters while wading through tons of dead fish.

No thanks.

the good news is the drought has brought the waterline well over 600ft from pretty much every house on the lakes. fire away. unless youre like everybody else dealing with closed boat ramps. did texas do something to piss mother nature off?????

That's sucks. Is that cause of the drought?

Yeah I talked with a GW bout said lake and he said he hasnt seen anything flying and the water is so low that it really doesnt matter there are no boat ramps accessable. I myself spent a few hrs and gallons to scout and it was a bust. All I saw were "tater chip" birds in the swim areas

IF I DONT SUCEED I WILL DIE TRYING

Bumped this hole question up the line and got nothing but the Grapevine office has the final say. So the horsey people can ride their horses while the waterfowl hunters can go p up a rope. They said that the areas are developed. Thats bogus cause we walked the area and you can barely walk thru it, one area is willows completely in the water. Went to the public hearing on this and listen to the complain about not wanting to be shot off their horse buy some crazed hunter. I have no problem with where the trails are but to take over the entire area is flat wrong.

Also if you get caught hunting in a no zone you can be charged with trespassing and loose you gun, boat and hunting rights. So think hard about breaking the rule.

I had a long conversation with the hunting manager with the CoE yesterday. It was an interesting conversation to say the least. He offered some good advice, I just do not want to post all he said and become the one to blame for what he said to me.

I would be willing to discuss in person with someone but that is about it.

I am ready for hunting season now. Going to go try and shoot a pig tomorrow.
