Probably going to Lufkin area for Labor day this weekend and hoping to not miss out on first weekend of dove season. I typically hunt north and west texas so not too hard to find dove. What about the pineywoods? Seems like the worst possible environment for dove but I could be wrong. Anyone know where I can get some dove hunting in near Lufkin? I have APH so I'm game for whatever is the best area.

Good luck finding something n Lufkin... +1 LOL, this is what I thought. Maybe if I climb one of the pine trees I can shoot at dove from the top?

good luck! I've been back in Nac for about a week and haven't seen any yet... and my catfish holes have dried up. Looks like I'm actually gonna study this semester.

There arent many birds here at all. Your best bet is if you can gain access (ae: your family owns or is part of a lease) to a clear cut (a forested pine stand that has been cut) with goatweed growing in it.
Since you have your APH you can try alazan bayou between lufkin and nac. there are some open fields there, but I never here of anyone actually shooting doves there. It would probably only be worth it if you REALLY wanted to get outta the house.
I like spoonie, his humor is dryer than my duck lease.
