I am looking at a lease in evant tomorrow and just curious if anyone can tell me how the hunting is around there. Ranch is 700 acres but part of a 8500 acre mld3 ranch. Any info or pictures would be appreciated.

There are a lot of deer, you will see lots of younger bucks but there are some big mature 8-12's around you just have to be patient. I've been hunting in Mullin for the past 4 yrs and I have worked hard in taking out spikes and cull bucks and we are really starting to see a few bigger deer in the area. Last year we were able to get pics on cam of two tens and a monster 12. I'm gonna be spending more time there this year so hopefully I will finnaly get a chance to take a really good dear.

I live in northern hamilton county and the hunting can be really good if the spot is good and it is managed well. Good friend of mine grew up in evant and he still hunts there.

Its a great area, we hunt between S Pumela and evant, MLD, and have some really nice deer seen and taken. I can only count once or twice that I didn't see anything. We have hogs as well, so you can get your pork on up

I have property 5 milse N. of evant. Was better hunting 5 to 10 years ago than now. Too many deer have been shot and we have a smaller population. biggest buck in the county has been taken twice off my property. Had a 14 point I let walk several times. Seen a couple of 12's. Last year or 2 I aint seen [censored].

The owner told me that there are 45 total hunters on the whole 8500 acres. Does this sound excessive. He stated that they could have more with the tags that are issued, but want to keep the numbers low. What's your thoughts.

Couple hundred acres per hunter does not sound like too many for this area to me. I am about 20 miles SE and we see plenty of good bucks, up to around 130".

2007 was our best year; but we had some rain too! It is really dry now and a lot of stock tanks have dried up.

Yea, that's a lot of hunters, but if it's MLD3 you'll only get X number of doe and buck tags to use, so the shooting shouldn't be excessive. On the other hand, if your survey numbers ever come out really low, like they might after this drought, there may not be 45 buck tags to go around. You should probably find out from the landowner what they plan to do should that situation arise.

Texan ,

Excellent advise!! I asked that question several times and was told this 700 acres has gotten 6 buck and 9-12 does tags for 6 years running. After driving the place last night I'm not to worried as I saw plenty of deer but you never know. I just wish I'd have started looking for a lease sooner.

I hunted between Evant and Goldwaithe last year and saw deer every time out. Didnt see alot of mature deer but there was alot of deer taken so that was the reason. Beautiful area.

I'm sure it is, shot by one of the owners sons, who showed up to shoot twice in the last couple years bang

Whos place treebass? I use to ride the bus down that road everyday. Bus driver stopped one time to let me get a pretty nice 8 point out of the fence on 152.
