Well I got my game cam up last weekend at my spot on Camp Bullis in San Antonio. This is the same spot I hunted 2 years ago. I think I have the same buck from then, but now with a bigger rack on my cam. Except skinnier this time....What do you think? October 2009 August 2011 August 2011

Beautiful rack, young deer also, I would say 3.5.
I would let him go for a couple of years.

This is on a military installation where you draw for a spot each year. You may not even get one. I am not going to "give him a couple of years." If he comes out, an arrow will fly his way!

Also, all of the deer so far are very skinny. I am not surprised with the drought.
I am thinking about buying some protein and just dumping a bag on the ground when I go out every week to 2 weeks. What do y'all think?
Would a lick block be recommended?

Would a lick block be recommended? I don't think I'd want to poor anything on the ground unless I am within a day of hunting that spot. That's just my opinion. You could mix the protein it in with the corn in with the corn if it doesn't jam it up...

I would let him go for a couple of years. He has pictures from the last 3 years of this buck and you think it's 3 year old? lol If you ask me that deer is OLD.

Thank you guys for the comments. I am thinking he is at least 4.5 yrs old. To have the rack he did in the first pic he would need to be 2.5. I don't think a 1.5 yr old would have a rack like that in the San Antonio area, but I am still a newb so....

how do you get them to pose like that?
24 hours in a day. 24 beers in a case. Coincidence, I think not.

I dont think it is the same deer, but they are both nice bucks. Crazy that the second one grew that kind of rack and his body is suffereing that badly.

Who cares if he's a little bit skinny? All the deer are going to be skinny unless they are getting protein and water year round. Most people cant afford that, especially year round protein. Let an arrow fly on that buck first chance you get. Wall hanger for sure. Hope you get him!!

how do you get them to pose like that? It took a lot of training, but he is coming through. Can't get him to pose after the first weekend of Oct though. That is why I have pics from 09 and 11. maybe he will come through for me this year.
