Young can be very good, not sure on Callahan. Others may have knowledge of both. You also have to consider driving distance these days.

We are looking for a lease and right now have two choices... A lease in northwest Brown County or a lease in west Runnels County. They're both the same price and look pretty good. We know there is deer out there, hunted in Coleman County for a while. We just don't know what side to choose!!!

Yep, if you can afford it get both. You won't be sorry.
I have 3, two small ones close to home and one big one way out west. Excellent setup for my situation.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

They're both about $5,000 a piece brew0216... Not bad! And we probably would go with both, but we already have a family ranch in Iredell that we go to a lot. Were looking at another so we can go with just our friends because sometimes you just get tired of your family 24/7! haha and we've tried the two leases at once thing before and it wasn't too good. Not enough time to make both good quality and everybody thought "Well if they can afford two leases they can afford everything else we need out here". We will see what happens. What one would yall choose if it had to be one though?!

Young Co has some good genetics. If you can find a place that let's em grow to maturity, you won't be disappointed.

I've hunted as a guest on a ranch on Brushy creek in Callahan. It was excellent.Lots of turkey, deer, hogs. The terrain is more brush and mesquite.Young cty.has a lot of oak trees with acorns.Deer don't come to feeders as readily IMO.At brushy creek you could look to the south and see traffic on I-20 about 1 mile away.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

[img:center] [/img] The first 3 deer were killed in Callahan County and the last one was killed in Jack County which borders Young County.

I think were going to go with the one in Brown Co. We called both land owners tonight and talked for a while with both of them. The guy that owns the one in Brown was a hell of a nice guy. Seems like he is going to be very easy to deal with it. He doesn't mind guests, doesn't care if you drink in reasonable amount, doesn't mind when you come and lets you bring 4-wheelers! The other guy sounded like an idiot that just wanted money, didn't care what you shot. Oh, and the one in Brown has been managed by the same group of hunters for the past 9 years, only left because they went broke. He gave us their numbers so were going to give them a call and see how it was!!!

Sounds like you made the right choice. I had a lease for 6 years in Young Co. and as previously stated, lots of oak trees, deer didn't come to feeders very well and lots of basket racks and high rack bucks but few legal bucks.
