I'm new to the Texas hunting scene, but I've been hunting for years back in Iowa. I currently live in the Ft. Hood area. I'm looking into hunting this fall, but don't know where hunting is good, or really any tacts to complete a successful hunt in Texas. Any info or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the Sportsmans Center on post and they will take care of you. You must have state license, Hunter safety permit and FT Hood permit. There are deer there, especially in the bowhunting only areas after gun season starts.Your best luck will probably be between early November and mid-December and if you scout out a good area and are persistent then you have a good chance.
As you know there are hassles to hunting Ft Hood. Some of the paperwork, and passes, area access and even dealing with people who put out several feeders and then think that they own all of that public land. There are a few more areas that are designated as no permenant stands/ no feeders areas that the Garrison Commander has opened up. Other than that, make sure you pick 2-3 different areas because it seems opening day is always a nightmare trying to get into an area if you only have chosen one. Remember though that you can only bowhunt in the guided rifle areas during bow season. When the general season opens up, those areas that are guided rifle are then off limits to bowhunters. Hope this helps

If some animals are good at hunting and others are suitable for hunting, then the Gods must clearly smile on hunting.
