Thinking about buying a barnett quad 400 or wildcat c5. Anyone have any opinions on these crossbows?

My wifes first crossbow was a Barnett Quad 400 and she loved it. She shot saveral hogs with it. I think for the price they are great bows.

I have been doing the research and actually leaning toward a Excalibur because I wanted recurve and how lite it was but a very close second because of price and quality was the barnett quad 400.

YOu can't go wrong with it.

I have a C5 and it is deadly accurate, but I am not sure I would get another one. Mine eats cables and from what I have read it is a common problem. Next time I put new cables on it I think I will run them through teflon tubes or wrap them in serving. Just too much rubbing going on where the cables cross over each other and slide in the stock. If I ever purchase another xbow it will probably be a recurve. The trigger is not fantastic - no, the trigger is pure crap actually, and I would probably test fire a bunch of bows to find one with a decent trigger.

Looks like a good buy for the money. I read reviews that Barnett was a little less quality than Hortons.

Tenpoint and Horton offer original owner lifetime warranties on their products (TP 5 years on limbs, Horton 3 years). Excalibur offers 5 years, with original owner lifetime coverage at their discretion. Barnett offers 5 years overall, no extension. The one catch with the Ten Point warranty on the limbs is that you have to use only Ten Point cables when replacing them. I think warranties say something about how well a company percieves the quality of their products, and the value of their customers. I havent had to use Ten Point customer service or warranty services for my crossbow yet. But those I know that have say they are top notch. Im obviously a Ten Point guy.

There are a few other recent threads in this forum about crossbows - check them out, they should help. Recall you get what you pay for so spend as much as your budget will allow so you dont have regrets.

If you are not in an area with a Cabelas of Bass Pro or archery shop so you can shoot as many as you can get your hands on (the feel, weigh and trigger pull on these are drastically different with each one) - its hard to go wrong with an Excalibur or Ten Point. I have a Ten Point Turbo XLT and LOVE it. My second choice was the Excal Equinox or Vortex. Dont get too caught up in the speed thing (Just make sure they shoot between 315 and 350 fps and you will be fine - I doubt any of the bows shoot the EXACT speed stated with actual hunting arrows and broadheads - most fudge with really light arrows and special strings to achieve the top speeds). I highly recommend Wyvern Creations for all crossbow needs - Dave at Wyvern is "THE" crossbow guy. Great guy.

I bought a barnett wildcat c5 last year for my kids first crossbow to shoot hogs with. it is very accurate and they both shot 4 or 5 hogs each and their first deer with it. for the money it is a great value. I got mine on sale for $195 shipped

I just got a Quad 400 about 3 weeks ago, been too hot to shoot it but it sure looks good setting here.
