Today we spent the whole day chasing Eland. Many people have told me that they are the hardest plains game animal to hunt, and they weren't lying! We got on several different herds in the morning, but could never get a shot off. In the afternoon we gave up on Eland, and started going to waterbuck. While driving the fence line we saw a group of 4 huge eland bulls on the neighbors side. Lucky for us that neighbor owed my PH a favor. The PH called the neighbor and he said that we could come shoot an Eland bull. We chased those 4 from hill side to hill side for several hours until it finally got to dark to hunt. Today, at 3 different ocassions I had a bull in the crosshairs but none would ever give me a shot. We will be returning to the neighbors place tomorrow to go after that giant bull again. I have two days left to hunt here and I am hoping on getting an eland, impala, baboon, waterbuck, and another gemsbok before we return to Dallas. (I know there are no pictures on this thread but since I have been putting the other threads in this section I decided to go ahead and put it here.)

Enjoying your progress. What rifle, caliber, and bullet have you been using on this Safari? Always enjoy hearing how various calibers perform.

I'm using a Savage 111 in 30-06 with the winchester 180 grain XP3's. So far I have had a springbuck and gemsbok be drt, and from what I've heard dropping a gemsbok like a rock is nearly impossible. Besides that I haven't had to track anything. Everything has fallen within 50-60 yards.

A cheap nikon buckmaster 4.5-14. I didn't want to bring an expensive set up over here because its just one less thing I then have to worry about. My whole gun set up over here is only like 500-600 dollars.
