i have the same problem el compadre. In fact, im leaving town here in an hour to drive to the lease to rebuild fences the cows plowed through to get to my corn... i am thinking of adding an electric charger to my fence, dont know if this will hurt deer as well. any thoughts to electric fences around feeders in relation to deer?

redhunter, I think I would stay away from anything electric around your deer feeder. if your deer get accidentally shocked while trying to get to the feeder you may never see them again. I would try either a regular low fence or tying down the feeder to where the cows can't knock it over. Just my suggestions.

As hungry as cows are right now, build a big pen with panels and good deep stakes. Put a cage to keep your corn from flying outside the pen.

Have you tried driving a T post at every feeder leg? This is what I do and have never had a problem.

OK,,,How about using hog panels for your feeder pen. Have you tried that?

build a feeder pen and use Hang em High feeders. Hogs and cows won't be knocking these guys over.

www.hangemhighfeeders.com

note: we are like you in regards to having a lot of rock under the ground. We do use 12" nails to help as the legs have a hole in the feeder foot. We have not had any fall over due to high winds, hogs or cattle. Hogs are constantly rubbing the legs as there is mud all of them about 24" up (on the feeders that do not have a feed pen)

big feeder pen if the corn goes outside of it and the cows get a taste of it they'll try to get in and if they jump and catch the fence with there back legs it'll go down or if a bull wants to he'll just put his head down and push till it goes and if he's big enough it will unless you got a lot of pipe in it

Cattle panels is the only way to go. They are taller and you will need a minimum of 6 preferably 8 panels. Place your heavy t-post every 13' to 14' this puts a bow in the fence and creates a round pen. After you complete this process go back and drive another post in the center of each panel so they cannot push against it and bow it to the inside, you can use a shorter post for this. When everything is secure notch down about 12" in a few spots for the deer to jump into the pen, position these notches for your best angle for hunting, most deer can jump a 54" fence but they will always go to the notches when available.

A little expensive to establish but worth it every way. In this drought the cows are going to be very aggressive, good luck.
Cattle panel at TSC in Weatherford is 21.99

also if you build a round pen with the panels the hogs will have a harder time getting in. at least this is what a friend told us and we tried it. its true so far with no hogs at the pen and 300yrs away i have hogs. the round pen has alfalfa and protein and corn.

Barbed wire around the post will make a good "scratching post" for a cow! I have used electric fencing and it only makes the deer jump higher grin Seriously they will jump over it ,not a problem, doesn't keep them out of the garden.
