Finally pulled my camera cards from this last month. Holy hell!!! I have anywhere from 6-8 coons at once on each of my 2 two ton gravity feeders. Looks like after dark the damned things dominate the feeders as there are only pics of coons after dark.

So, how much feed can a coon eat? Are we talking a 1/4 pound per coon per day??? Feeders were completely empty and I thought it was a bit early. It is still extremely dry though.

I'm going out with a buddy Friday night to regulate! I will post pics when I get back...

I was told many years ago that a coon can eat its live weight in protein in a month. Plus what they waste kicking on the ground.

I think it goes through them like fat through a duck. A neighbor of mine said that after I worked on the coons at his place for a couple of weeks he was feeding 100# less in 2 weeks.

Hey, same problem. We're soo sick and tired of these coons. Funny thing is; you brought this topic up. Because most of today, I've spent a lot of my time thinking of " A New Trap " just for them !

Recently, we went to check the game cameras and protein feeder. And a ton of pictures of COONS and it appeared that in one photo sequence, the coon, run-off a nice - young 8pt. from the feeder....Is this possible ?

I love killing coons. Almost as much fun as killin' coyotes.

Well, those coons are going to OD on #4 lead shot out of my 12 gauge!

I have thought about the duke coon traps and even the conibear on a bucket set, but I am only at the ranch about a day or two a month and I hardly ever spend the night.

My buddy and I are just going to sit by the feed pen all night with lights and guns. Oh yea, cooler of beer too... I'll post pics of the slaughter when I get back. I'll try to post a pic of them all over the feeder tonight.

By the way, anywhere to buy the shark teeth chingaderos in Austin or do I just need to order off the website?

This is how they get on the feed spout...

And here are a bunch of dead coons, they just don't know it yet!

I have a picture with more in it but I cant find it right now. I'm thinking of putting those shark teeth things on the tops of the feed spouts and on the bottom half of the legs.

Earlier on THF I saw a post where people were putting the spikes on the tube tops on their protein feeders.

Does anyone know where you can buy those? Please PM me if you know.

Thanks......

Shhhhhhhh better to be quiet than remove all doubt..

I'm sorry but those pics are just too funny. They are quite the acrobats and totally fearless with the hogs. Coons make cool looking mounts if you happen to get one with unusual markings or coloring.

I do agree, you have a coon invasion at your feeder.

I just bought 6 of these and will try them out next weekend. I am moving away from the steel traps cause I don't want to catch a fawn and risk breaking its leg.

We use Egg Traps to control the coons. Works great. http://www.theeggtrapcompany.com/

You can order the Shark teeth from Buck Boss in Seagoville or pick them up at the store front there.

Go to Home Depot and go to the sction where they sell deck materials and wood connectors- like brackets and such. They have small strips (about 6-9")of the shark-teeth stuff they sell for joining boards together. It's cheaper and they are sharp as all get out. I know........

Sardines in first with a marshmellow at the top (don't push it down, just set it in place)

Have FUN

I stopped them and the squirrels by just putting grease on the legs. The deer don't seem to be bothered by the smell. You just gotta be careful when you go to fill up. Cut my feed bill by a bunch! One dose of grease usually lasts a full year.

Ok, ok, still not as fun as blasting their sorry a**, but it works.

If possible,I'd like to trap/terminate them in bulk on weekend trips because of distance from property .
Look at this thread I came across and let us all know, what you think.....Note threads(furtrapper)#66,68 and 74. Has anyone used this method before ?

That sounds like a good idea. I might have to build one of those traps!

if you have a foxpro or have a friend with one, the coon fight call works pretty well at bringing them in

Update:

Went to the ranch with a friend Friday night. We drove around with spotlights from dark till 5 am. We shot 12 coons and killed 1 case of beer! Sorry, no pics because I am too damn lazy. 5 coons got away either because they wouldn't stay treed or we were too lazy to walk that far! I guess we are getting old.

I bought those shark teeth like deals to join boards together at lowes. Man, they are sharp! Didn't have time to put them on the feeder, I guess I'll do it next time. Hopefully the coons will stay away for a while. I've now killed 15 in the last month and a half!
