Depends.....

There are at least 3 sub-species of Sika that are spotted (that I know of):

1. Manchurian Sika
2. Formosan Sika
3. Dybowski Sika

All of them are typically $2,000+ for large bucks. I have a property with GIANT Dybowski Sika.....and they charge $3,750. Yes, that is expensive for any Sika, but when you see a big one....you will agree it is worth every penny!! They are absolutely gorgeous!!

Buddy just killed one on his deer lease free range Dybowski from what I can tell from photos not a giant but little over 20's and free still will make a cool mount.

We've got pure manchurian's and they're pretty spendy.

Our manchurian's are hitting 24 inches by their 3rd year.

Lots of crosses starting to show up these days as the dybowski/manchurian crosses are now pretty readily available at auction.

All but the melanistic japs (the black, black) ones will have spots this time of year. So hard to tell you what it'd be. Sure it's just a cross of some sort.

It looks exactly like an axis, except for the neck hair.

IMHO Sika deer are underrated. I will shoot a Sika over an axis any day. I personally think they are prettier and they taste better. I have a top 10 ROE Formoson Sika bull on the wall and would definately shoot another one in a heartbeat.

I think Sika are an awesome critter to hunt, and calling them in the rut is a blast. IMO they get a bum wrap because a) most people are only familiar with the Japanese variety and b) even those get shot too young on a lot of places.

As mentioned above, with the prevalence of the larger subspecies showing up, I think you'll see a lot more interest in them.
